Need some 6.5 Creed handload help

I worked up some handloads using IMR 4350 using Hornady brass (never fired), CCI 200 primer and Hornady ELD-X 143gr bullets.

Max charge I loaded was 41 grains and here are my muzzle velocities at that charge:

    2520
    2520
    2501
    2530
    2539

All powder measurements were double checked on 2 different scales prior to being dropped in the case.

Published load data in Hornady's book is 2700 fps. Why am I so far off?

Shots were at 100 yards and were shot out of a Savage 10 FCP-SR.

What length is your barrel vs the barrel length used during hornady testing?

      Mine is a 20" 1 in 8" twist. Hornady is 24" 1 in 8" twist

That would be the reason. You're going to lose around 50 fps per inch of barrel, give or take and depending on the cartridge.

Got it. Thank you. I was unaware of that. I knew it would lose some but didn't realize it was that much.

There is usually also a slight difference from one lot of powder to the next.

Load up 42.4 grains of H-4350 behind a 140gr berger vld. You'll shoot 1 hole all day. The imr powder is close but not the same in that it varies slightly more with temp differences. If 42.4 doesn't work, load right around 42 as that is typically the node to work with for the creed. I was getting 2860 out of a savage model 10 predator.

Ran this really quickly in quick load. Your speed looks about right given your barrel length.

                  Cartridge : 6.5 Creedmoor Hornady
                  Bullet : .264, 143, Hornady ELD-X 2635
                  Useable Case Capaci: 46.275 grain H2O = 3.005 cm³

                  Barrel Length : 20.0 inch = 508.0 mm

Thanks a lot. Is Quick Load an ap or software? Love the data.

I'd love to shoot Bergers as I've heard great things about accuracy but I've heard A LOT of negative about performance when hunting. A lot of fragmentation.

                      You hunt with this round?

It's a software package. It gives a good estimate of what to expect with pressure/velocity and has helped me quite a bit with reloading.

Did you see pressure at 41gr?

None at all. Brass looked clean. Primer looked normal. I was within spec according to Hornady's load book. I think max was 41.3.
