Default Texasbowhunter.com Blanco County Season-long Live Hunt

We are going to use this thread to update our hunts this season. Les, Travis (Stins), Michael and I, along with our families, hunt this property outside of Blanco.

Opening Morning
Les, Colette, my daughter Kelsey and I are hunting this morning. Travis and his son will arrive later today. Michael is wedding dress shopping with family this weekend.

Les is at the ridge, Colette is at bomb shelter north, and Kelsey and I are tucked into bomb shelter south

Follow along as we hope to get opportunities at whitetail, hogs, axis and blackbuck.

It's getting light out....

7 deer early but never got comfortable. Triggering feeder by remote has 3 deer heading back in.

Two 8pts and a spike. The drought here has really impacted the deer..

Kelsey could not finish her draw on a doe. Apparently she's a little sure from practicing this week. She'll put it all together. Great morning regardless.

Born and raised in Blanco and still have lots of family there. Our place is about 10 miles out 1888 on Sleepy Hollow.
The Old 300 building was the main repair garage in town for more years than I care to admit.
I was born in the old courthouse on the square when it was a hospital. If you haven't already you should check out the Buggy Barn on the north side of town.

Acorns have been raining for several weeks on miller creek. Deer tried to eat us out of house and home this year and toting water is still sucking. Bucks still added inches though & thank dear lord baby Jesus that L&E will haul in feed by the tractor trailer load!

Good luck, we’ve hade several good ones hit the rock already!

We were late getting back out this evening but all set... And sweaty. Bumped at least 9 axis out on the way in. They were 80 yards from the feeder. Hoping they will come back but they are kinda hit or miss at this stand

Tyler and I arrived this afternoon. He had a football game last night in Beaumont.

We ate pizza in town and discussed game plans. He wants an Axis bad.

We get to camp and shoot his cross bow and get things settled. 4:30 we clean up and head to the blind, making him drive to log some extra hours.

We sit in the blind covered up with deer and a couple loan does tempt him but he refrained. Then a crab claw 8 comes and stays WAY too long.

Pics to come once I can figure it out

Kelsey and I took a beating tonight. At last light a group of about 6 bucks tried to come in. We got eyes on one freak that is likely a shooter. However, fading light and hesitant deer are typically a bad mixture for bowhunting success.

We will try again soon. Maybe tomorrow night!

Maybe Les, Colette, Travis and Tyler can make it happen in the morning!

Tyler and I had a late start to the weekend. He had a football game Friday night in Beaumont so we rolled into camp yesterday afternoon, with a quick stop to grab some lunch in down town Blanco

We got into camp and spoke with Collette and Les and made sure he was still dialed in before taking a shower and headed out.

The deer lease is a great place to let the boy log some driving hours as he approaches 15.

We then got settled into the blind and made sure he was comfortable with his set up. All systems were a go as we settled in and watched a variety of deer come and go.

This one crab claw 8pt would come and go. I gave Tyler the green light if he wanted too. He initially held off hoping an Axis buck would show, but after an hour of watching this buck and as the day was growing short he had a change of heart. He leaned in and waited for the buck to move into his shooting lane and made the shot. A bit high but short track jobs are always appreciated!

We were back at it this morning and had some whitetail and a decent axis buck that wouldn’t commit. Then the cows moved in and ruined the hunt.
