We are in Schleicher County pretty much between Fort McKavett and Eldorado. We have now lost 4 does in the last month that have all been within 100 yards of one of our water troughs. I watched two of them die in basically the same way. They came to water and looked ok and within 30 minutes or so they were dead. This last one I startled her and as she ran her front legs gave a couple of times. I found her bedded up in some trees and thought she was done. She managed to get up and go about 75 yards before she fell over... basically collapsed. She was dead not long after that.
I searched our other two water trough areas and didn't find any dead deer. I am still seeing a lot deer throughout the pasture. I guess I will see what TAHC says when they get back to me.
Its rough country where we are at during dry times and have lost a lot of deer before during droughts. I have just never seen deer die so quick or so many in a concentrated area in a short time frame.
