    question for welders!

so I'm planning on building a high rack seat setup for my Kawasaki mule.... need to know professional recommendation on what size and thickness of square tubing I should order.

I want it to be as lightweight as possible as I will be taking this in and out of the bed, but want it sturdy.

aluminum is not an option as I can't weld it myself.

    suggestions?

I would go 1-1/4"-1-1/2" x 14ga or 16ga for main frame and smaller 3/4 and 1" 16ga in areas you could get by with smaller.

Designed correctly, 1" 16ga is plenty stout for the whole thing. The two we've had where both built with 1" & 3/4" 16ga.

the measurements (ie, 1, and 1.5") are outside dimentions of the tubing correct?

sorry for the ignorance, I'm a total newbie with working with steel.

The thinner it is the harder it is to weld, for me. .0625(12 gauge) or thicker for me.

1"x14ga. would be just perfect, easy to weld and light weight. I've built several out of it.
