Ed King was a major asset to the band but Ronnie never gave him much respect and treated him like a punk. If I remember correctly it’s because he was from California and not a southern boy.
Ed and Ronnie were actually pretty close. Ronnie just got mean when he was drinking while they were on the road. That’s why Ed packed up and quit after a show one night while they were in the middle of touring.
