Several years ago 2 men were sentence to federal prison for poisoning hogs which in turn killed vultures. This happened in east Texas. If they find the person who shot them I'm sure they will go to prison.

They will pay more and spend more time in jail than someone actually killing a person.

I see them pretty often in the winter fishing. Had one eat an undersized crappie we threw back one day! Couldn’t dig my phone out fast enough when I realized what was happening! Cool birds. Hope they catch the fools.

They occasionally kill chickens at my place. I saw two eagles here just last week.

Glorified white headed buzzards.

I used to duck hunt with a guy in high school who shot a bald eagle (I was not on that hunt) on the Missouri river and told several people he got caught if I remember correctly he got a $2500 fine shot gun confiscated his hunting privileges revoked for 10 years and a ridiculous amount of community service

Agreed. If they weren’t labeled our “National Bird” there would be a bounty on them.

For all those saying they will go to prison; highly doubt it. Prob get a fine and a little community service. There are people walking the streets on low to no money bonds now days that have killed someone and on their tenth+ arrest. Just like the kids/adults poaching all the deer in Leon County. None of them served prison time, fines and community service. We are not hard on criminals.

Maybe they won’t serve time (if caught) but it is a folly to compare state laws and habits to the federal laws.

I get your point. But could name plenty of cases where federal law is broken too, and nobody goes to jail.

I agree and that’s why I said so.

Comparing laws and punishments is worse than comparing truck brands. My partner filed a child underage photo case (to get past filters) in state court and the guy was offered probation. A 4 block drive to the federal courthouse and taking the same charges in their system resulted in several years in prison.

That is certainly different than a game violation but just as a comparison, it depends on what they want to do and maybe make an example.

So how many chickens have said eagles killed? Sure it was not a hawk, yote, neighbors dog? Maybe eagle was cleaning up the mess. If the loss is that great maybe you can deduct from your taxes.

It was a better payoff for anyways. More bang for the buck now that he’s eating fried eagle instead of fried chicken

I watched the Eagles kill them. It happened once a day for 3 days in a row. Then I kept them in their coop 24-7 for a few days and the eagles left.

I put my wife’s chihuahua out in the yard, but unfortunately it’s still here.

Eagles are chicken killing machines. I suspect they got into someone's poultry is what happened. Given that it can be a federal offence to kill them, I'd have let them slide, but not everyone (especially in east Texas) thinks it's cool to watch their chickens get slaughtered..

The symbolism it represents to our Nation and the reality of the animal is two different things. There’s several eagles around where I live in the piney woods. The Trinity river is only about 10 miles away and several of them nest there. They can represent freedom, strength, power, and whatever else you want them to.
Reality is they feast on road kill right with the buzzards around here most of the time.

20 + yrs ago I was on a lease in Sonora. The rancher told me one day that I didn't see anything if an eagle showed up dead. Said they killed the goat kids. I told him what eagles. Just another buzzard. Used to have to race them for geese that sailed out after shooting.
