    Roping Wild Bears in Arizona 1934

    This old video is crazy. Roping bears in Arizona. The narration is hilarious.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPLQx-UBjLc"]Roping Wild Bears (1934) - YouTube[/ame]

    From K.G. Hunt....
    The government hunter was Floyd Pyle. This was his job from the late 1920s through 1944. He was required by the govt. to keep a journal during these years which I have in my possession. During 1 12 week period he took 12 mountain lion and a stock killing bear. Floyd is riding the sorrel paint (Cherokee) a well known horse in the Rim Country during his time.
    Edd Haught was the oldest son of Babe Haught and and is the other rider/roper in this film.

    That was some interesting old footage. Those were the smallest 500 pound bears I've ever seen, though I wouldn't mess with either one.

      I used to have a book that was a compilation of Zane Grey's outdoor writings and there was a chapter in there about roping treed mountain lions in Arizona. Sounded like a lot of fun but not something I'd ever be brave enough to try.

          Cool video (even if the narrative was truly awful). Thanks

            Interesting

            But if you ever read the story about roping a deer you wouldn't want any part of a bear or lion

            Seems like there is a cowboy in Big Bend history that roped a bear.

              Heck, I roped a porkypine once in Colorado.

                  I have roped some hogs in my life but never a bear. Looks like it would be a blast to me.

                      I think bull riding is a lot safer.

                        Rope? Why let a perfectly good rifle get unused?

                          On one of the old Howard Hill films he shows a couple cowboys roping a cougar. Quiet entertaining and way more guts than I got to even try it.
