    Barb Wire Fencing Cost

We are looking at a new piece of property that will need to be fenced. It is completely unfenced, so the only additional costs to the labor and materials will be pushing a ROW.

Trying to build the budget now before finalizing the offer.

All in - what can I expect to pay for 4-strand barb wire fence per mile.

This would be 3 miles of new fencing in the Midland/Odessa area.

    Thanks for the input.

I’m guessing $2.50 per foot or so for labor and material.

I was thinking closer to $4/ft in current market

I was looking at barbwire prices the other day and seemed going rate was $65-80/roll

You said four strand no way would I build a four strand for the outer fence
four wire just wont work. My outer fence around the property are 6 strand.
If the fence is built right it should last over 20 years. Keep vines brush off it.

Talk to your ascs office They may have some cost share money. I do know they require
a 6 strand fence. They also have a list of fence builders that build to their specs

            Thanks - I’ll price in a 5th strand.

Just had about 2400 ft of 5-strand barbwire done. It was around $2.75 per foot. It was in dirt with some rocky ground.

We put in driven pipe line posts. Pipe for corners and gates
Joints of pipe have tripled in the last two years
I will check to see what it cost per foot for barbed wire. Much of ours was field fence.

Outer fence should be at least 5 strands for a more secure perimeter

Yes, $2.50 was two years ago so I may be low. I would also do at least 5 wires, and I would have done galvanized tee post if I did it again. Make sure you get a firm answer on how the fence builder will charge for corners as it can add up.

NRCS will not help with exterior fence.

Last year it was 3.15/ft in Victoria with driven & welded pipe corners, pipe line posts every fifth post, and galvanized T posts. That was after I dozed and disposed of the old fence. With the costs of wire and posts right now, that has to have risen considerably.
