Default Urgent Care Visit

Taking my daughter to local urgent care this morning as she has had headache, sore throat & fever past 2-3 days
I pull up as you have to call from parking lot. The lady answers and ask the typical personal info & address and insurance verification. Then she turns around and flat out asks if we just need a Covid test.
Iím like well sheís experienced these symptoms past 2-3 days so I figure Iíd bring her in for yíall to evaluate & test if itís flu, strep, Covid ???
So is it automatic to assume you want a Covid test or itís a higher probability you have Covid over anything else?
I didnít realize I was supposed to rule out all the other possibilities of strep, flu & come here just for Covid testing
Geez

Not sure I understand the problem. Dr's diagnose by ruling out.

Yea, pretty much. I would not take it so personal. Some of the places in our area are over-whelmed and probably make a pretty educated guess. Hopefully it is not covid related.

The family and I took the home test twice for COVID Omni yesterday , decided to stay away from urgent care so we donít catch the flu also, doing zincs, C&D, Benadryl, Advil. Same symptoms as your daughter
Hopefully she feels better soon and hopefully no one else catches it
Peace be with you

Basically I want them to check her symptoms & such
I was asked if we just wanted a Covid test only

Maybe Iím not up to date on the new process
I used to take the kids in to urgent care & they evaluated & based on onset of symptoms, how long, progression of anything worsening, look at their throat, into the ears, check breathing & any fluid on lung sounds they would determine what test were needed

You ainít never lied!!
Every Covid testing spot and emergency care within 20 miles of Aldine has a LONG LINE.
They are overwhelmed I couldnít imagine having that job right now!

I’m not upset I guess just a little taken back the straight forward “ you just want a Covid test”
Maybe they are just overwhelmed right now

My mom was sick over Christmas, all test came back negative for covid, went to urgent care and they wouldn't test her for the flu, or anything else.
If you don't have covid, you can go home, that's it.
Her PP finally diagnosed her with Bronchitis the beginning of this week.
F'ing clown world 🤦*♂️.

They get paid for each Covid test, plus additional for every positive test. And they don’t have to treat you, just send you on your way. Its much more profitable for them, not to have you come in to be treated for anything.

OP, assuming your daughter has no prexisting issues that complicate covid, honestly I would go to a Dr that's actually treating covid rather than urgent care center which is just gonna say yup, you got covid, but you got no other underlying issues that put you at risk, so go home and rest, and here's a list of suppliments you should take.

Those urgent care centers are pretty much just making bank off these covid tests, for a version of covid that is less dangerous than the common cold.

Just to clarify…we were still sitting outside in my truck when I was asked the question if I just needed a Covid test. We hadn’t walked into the clinic yet so she wasn’t even seen yet when asked this….Just a little surprised they assumed Covid before even seeing her

An educated guess like the time my late fathers dr told him he had spondylitis after a scan and the second option dr found it was cancer in his spine. That type of educated guess?

The dumbasses are the ones that get tested with no symptoms. If they could, and some probably do, get tested every day.

Not defending them by any means, but everything you just listed is the current symptoms for this COVID variant. We called the pediatrician for a teledoc appointment a few days ago, and said it could be strep, but everyone showing symptoms of strep, are actually COVID +. Sure enough, we take them for a swab and they all 3 popped + for COVID.

Well considering they have been just sending people home from the beginning with no treatment, possibly, you do have underlying health conditions though.
How many people in that line have underlying health conditions, or are they mostly just the hysterical masses that thinks covid is the end all be all of boogie monsters, and we gotta test, test, test, test and test gain for covid, for any and everything.
Wanna take a s**t, better take this covid test first, it's been proving you can spread it through sharing a toilet seat .
Standing in a line with a 100 other people who also think they have covid, doesn't seem real bright either.
Handling the same pens, same clipboard, same nurses.
But unless someone spits in your open mouth you can't catch this virus, so mask up, get a jab, and you're bulletproof against anything but covid.
Ok, I'll leave ya'll alone

The man and woman next door get tested weekly. He works from home and she is retired. They have all their food delivered and don't go anywhere. They both are perfectly fine, but get tested weekly.

Yes & I can understand via teleDoc but if Iím physically taking a child in to a clinic Iím going to rely on their medical expertise via evaluation in person to determine test & diagnosis & proper treatment
Heck Iím not even an expert at much anything

This comment right here, is just plain dumb. I tested positive here at the house, wife is a nurse, on Monday. Had no direct contact with anyone that I know of who has also tested positive. No idea where I caught it.

Urgent cares and drs offices are flooded with people trying to get tested for Covid. Thatís why they ask right off the bat to determine what youíre actually there for. Some people arenít worried about the symptoms you list and theyíre typically not a big deal, but they want a Covid test to control exposure. My wife sat at the urgent care for 4 hrs this week waiting for a Covid test. Theyíre overwhelmed.

Why the heck are people saying after a positive test you need to get tested again 5 days or so later? The ďscienceĒ says you are only contagious a few days before and after symptoms onset. Such a joke..

Yes and we used to call this aÖ.COLD. Which is caused by a coronavirus (Not COVID 19). So could it be that the test which tests for a protein caused by a coronavirus (not COVID-19 specifically) is showing positive because you have a common cold?

As to the wait and lines for testing how much worse do you think it will get if Grandpa Joeís bill to force everyone to get the vaccine or be tested weekly to have a job gets through the high 9?

One of the sellers I work with was going to Canada before the holidays to see a customer. Canada requires you to be tested 3 days prior to entering the country. He went to get tested and the nurse actually asked him if he wanted a positive or negative test? She said depending on how she does the test she could change the results. If she just barely put the swab in it would be negative, even if he has VOVID.

I’d just have her tested for Flu and strep. Tamaflu if flu- Probably Amoxil or Z-pak if strep. If negative for both those just get on high immunity boosting vitamin regiment and if you choose some of the other treatment options for the China Flu. High immunity regiment should help with all of the above

Hopefully, the young lady, will be fine.
But, there is an agenda..
Follow the money. Follow the Ben's.

If you don't have covid, you can go home, that's it.

Her PP finally diagnosed her with Bronchitis the beginning of this week.

From what I've read omicron is bronchitis

I pull up as you have to call from parking lot. The lady answers and ask the typical personal info & address and insurance verification. Then she turns around and flat out asks if we just need a Covid test.
Iím like well sheís experienced these symptoms past 2-3 days so I figure Iíd bring her in for yíall to evaluate & test if itís flu, strep, Covid ???
So is it automatic to assume you want a Covid test or itís a higher probability you have Covid over anything else?
I didnít realize I was supposed to rule out all the other possibilities of strep, flu & come here just for Covid testing
Geez

What urgent care did yíall go to?

One in Jacksonville
For the record she was +
She feels fine other than a fever off & on
Throat not as sore. Basically told us nothing. I had to ask what’s recommended protocol & just said rest & if you have trouble breathing go to the ER.
Thanks for asking about her
Sorry to start a ruckus just thought it was an interesting experience
