I’ll be there the first week solo trying to fill my mule deer tag (will have an elk tag as well). I’ll be returning the last 10 days of the season with three friends hoping to fill a few elk tags.
Spent the last week unsuccessfully trying to stick an antelope in Nebraska. Though my stalking skills are now honed for September.
Headed up for two weeks, just haven’t decided which two yet. Got otc elk and bear, unit 521 private land . Had a couple of close encounters last year. Hope to seal the deal this year. Be worth it just to get out of this heat !
I been here in Colorado since last Sunday. First day I saw a spike. Sat all day on a wallow that’s getting hit hard but nothing came to the wallow. But while I was there that evening my cellcam said I should have been at my old faithful spot
I stalked in between two screaming bulls. They hollered back and forth and raked trees for 45 minutes. I got so riled up I missed then the bull headed straight for me. I went to draw when he passed behind a tree at 5yds and pushed my arrow off the string. Had to stand there as he passed inside of 10’. Turned and the other bull had snuck up next to me. Sent one 6” over his back. I haven’t been that shook up in years. Hate that I didn’t execute, but a cool experience. I’m still in them, though they have mostly shut down except at night. I’m here until midday Tuesday (right when a huge temperature drop is forecast), but I’ll be back on the 19th hoping to hit the full on scream fest.
