Just got in my Creek bottom scrape stand for an evening sit. This stand is in the North Fabius River bottom. The North Fabius flows all the way to the Mississippi River but we are on the headwaters here in Southeast Iowa.

This stand is at the base of a steep ridge where several trails come together. There is always...at least for the last few years...a scrape here. It appears to be just getting started this year. When I drew a nonresident tag in 2017 I killed a big doe here.

This bottom is full of Black Walnut, Elm, Honey Locust, Hedge (Bois d Arc), with White Oaks up on the ridge.

It's been windy today but it has laid. Very light breeze and about 60 degrees.

Let's see what happens here in the next couple of hours.[emoji106]

Make sure the deer runs up to the top of the hill to crash!

Thought I would try a soft grunt call a 5:45.
            Nothing.
At 5:50 I tried a louder grunt. This guy came running in. He is still here trying to figure out where it came from. Guess I am going to have to wait till dark to get down. It is amazing how these Iowa bucks respond to grunts, rattling, and decoys. Text book.

Couple more years and that buck is gonna be a giant. That's a good looking trail behind you. Like those arrow wraps too!

                      You got that right !!!

Marty (bow5) hunted our place with me in 2017. He helped me drag a doe up the ridge to my left. It's about a 45 degree angle up to the fence where my neighbor could get a side by side in to pick it up.

He is a chunky son of a gun. I have hunted a lot of places where I would have shot him without even thinking about it....but not here....not in October.[emoji846]

I'm in, good luck bud. I've hunted around Memphis, MO a few times and hope to be back up there next year.
