We left this morning and got up to Throckmorton County about 2:30pm. We unloaded and I headed to the spot I had scouted out by the river last year. I had my brush blind built by about 3:30pm and had 50lbs of corn and 50lbs of Sweet Feed on the ground. My back was to the river bank with about 20yds of thick brush between me and the river. The area in front of me had grown up a lot since last year and there weren't many shooting lanes but the area looked really good. It was nasty thicket all around. I tried a little rattling about 4:30-5pm with no luck. At 5:20pm a big healthy doe came in and started eating the corn and sweet feed. I held off a bit on shooting her to see if she had a buck in tow, even though does are on the menu this trip. I decided I better take the bird in the hand and laid her down. About 10 mins later I see horns coming out of the thick nasty stuff and he picked up the does trail. I could tell he was mature and a shooter. It was so thick where he came out I didn't think he was gonna give me a shot. Finally he stepped into a small opening and I stopped him only 40yds from me and put one in him. 2 deer in 10 mins on the first hunt of the trip was a blessing. While I was skinning my buck my brother-n-law showed me a game cam pic of the same buck on different property 2 miles away on October 22nd. It's amazing how far those guys travel.
