I’ve had good luck finding animals by entering trophy club park and heading west towards the high school. Also the west side of 377 all over the south eastern corner, lots of action to be had there.

Woooaahh let's pump the brakes on spot talk please. Official public stance is there are no deer on the vine

Lol. Nothing wrong with pointing someone in a general direction, he’ll have plenty of work ahead of him, putting one on the ground out there isn’t a piece of cake.

I definitely wasn't looking for spots! Found plenty last year! And no, there are no deer at Grapevine.

Does anyone know if the blocked road next to DFW Adventure park is private or is there access to the property there?

I scouted early last year on the east side of 377, but did all of my hunting on the west side. If there were deer and hogs out there, I would've shot a spike and a hog last year.

Well, I don't want to get into an argument on this thread, but I think there is something wrong with talking spots even vaguely. Anyone who googles gvine hnting is going to find this thread, and the areas you mention will see increased traffic even if those guys don't kill anything. Also, fwiw, unless something has changed I think that access with a bow from trophy club park is legally grey at best.

You're right though, it's a tough place to hunt. Good luck this season

Give all of the permits out, whether it’s a re-draw or a first come first serve for the remaining permits.

I’d also like to see published the total number of permits drawn vs issued. Reading the past surveys, it’s very apparent the deer population can support more harvest.

The east boundary runs right up to Trophy Club park.

You just have to be aware of how far from the park you are before you can hunt.

My thinking is that in the 10 yds between the truck/parking lot and the boundary fence they could argue you are still hunting (while in the boundary of tcp.) It would be a technicality, but if they want to discourage bowhunting access they could make that case. Says specifically on their website only duck hunting is allowed in tcp. Similar in my mind to how if you parked in the byron nelson lot and hiked in to hunt you'd be in trouble even if your stand was 600 ft from the fence.
Just my interpretation I guess but I thought I'd share anyway, I think it's a risk, hate to see somebody get popped for it.

I get it, but if your walking in with all your gear, no arrow nocked, and a climber stand on your back I don’t think that would be considered actively hunting.

There are other places to access that part of the land also, not just the park.

Hahaha all in good fun. I didn’t get drawn this year so I’ll have to resort to accompanying my 11 year old son to hopefully get his first deer, I’ll probably get more enjoyment from that experience.

I haven’t seen the youth waiver on the website yet, anyone know if they have them at the office or when they might hit the website?

I'll be in East Texas this weekend. I make it a point to avoid any public land on opening weekends. Best of luck and save one of those slammers for me!

It's actually by reservation only but yes, whoever books it first and brings corn!

I've come up on 5 PVC pipe free feeders already. None of them in use, but just crazy.

I’ve come across feeders, tree stands with safety ropes, even a felled tree that had a stand attached to it. I know the office does run some feeders out there but know idea where or when.

Amazon was supposed to deliver my pop up blind yesterday but it just showed up. I'm on my way to BN's parking lot right now with a rolling cooler if anyone needs a monster drink or a bag of ruffles. Don't worry I'll speed walk to my spot because it's going to take me a while to figure out how to set up this blind. Opening Day boys!

So if the office runs feeders, does that mean we're allowed to hunt them?!? Technically we're not baiting!

Why not just call the office and ask?

I'd hate to get accused of baiting if it wasn't my set. The USFW Service wardens take federal rules pretty seriously. You might be in Texas. But you're on Federal land out there.

The fish are biting and there's hogs to be kill-t. Gotta go!

I was saying it more as a joke. I've never seen a legit looking feeder out there.

There was a local police officer that had a feeder and a rifle stand out there years back.

The local landowners found and reported it. I wouldn’t have believed it if i didn’t see the cellphone pics.

Grapevine is just like any other wooded, semi-secluded place near a metropolitan area. It’s full of nuts. My personal favorite was the homeless tent camp off 377 headed west.

Be careful out there! It’s worth the risk tho

I found one on the east side of 377 one morning last year, called Roanoke PD and it got taken care of.

LTC concealed carry on all public land. Always. I occasionally go to Tawakoni when I want to slum it and there are some tweakers out there! Luckily haven't encountered the homeless camps on Grapevine yet.

Sat this morning with my kiddo, saw 3 does but no shot opportunities. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a tough season, the regular streams and ponds I would sit are all bone dry and a lot of the acorns I came across looked to have been dropped and consumed quite awhile ago.

They are out there, just might need a new strategy if you aren’t having luck, but of course this could all change at a moments notice so who knows!

What I can tell you for sure is there are some brick house hogs wandering around, I have a few that are easily 250lb+ showing up.

I'm hoping the couple of smaller 6 points that kept hanging around me last year grew enough this year to take. We'll see!

As for the hogs, yes they are there! I'll settle for a good 100-125lb sow. Good eating!

Have the kids in a tree now. Bumped up 5 deer on the way in. Hopefully the kids get a shot.

Saturday evening I sat my first time. With only one afternoon to scout before October I am realizing I may be in for a long slow season.

Only thing I saw was a healthy armadillo.
