Incredible race! I bet Max is getting real tired of having to explain why he keeps getting hit on lap 1 by a Merc driver. Botas had no shot braking that late.
Good for Alpine and screw Hamilton complaining about Alonso. That's dangerous but diving into a turn at 180 mph where you have no chance of making it and sending someone screaming into a tire wall is fair game? Want some cheese with that whine Lewis?
Good for Ocon- was cool to see so many other drivers battling.

Great drive for Ocon and Vettel. Sucks that Vettel lost the position. The battle between Alonso and Hamilton in the closing laps was epic!!!

How did Hamilton not know to come in at the beginning, and every other driver did? I know the teams can’t / don’t communicate on the formation lap, but still…. Still worked out for him.

I wondered the same. Sainz was called to the stewards post race for communicating on the formation lap of the restart. I haven't heard the outcome of that just yet.

Interesting, I guess there is no coasting over the finish line in this sport.

I guess sampling fuel in the pits/jugs isn't what they do in F1.
OK, still learning......
F1 doesn't allow re-fueling during the race.....So they test the tanks before and after to make sure no funny business happens during the pits. There have been some rather notorious "shenanigans" played in the past with fuel and ballast where lead shot was used after the race to make weight or when the water being used as ballast was injected for "cooling" but they found to have methanol in it I believe and the car was basically on the bottle the whole race. Easiest now is to just test pre/post race. Now you know why Ocon and Vettel killed the cars on the track.

Strategy comes into play here. When they fueled up for the race they were thinking a wet race and slower pace, lower engine mode settings and therefore seems they added less fuel to get whatever weight advantage they could. Then it goes dry and everyone is on slicks and they are thin on fuel at the end. Sainz had to pull out as well to keep from running out of fuel which is why he wasn't fighting Lewis harder.

Thanks for the explanation.

I’ll be watching on DVR over the next few days, I’ll keep an eye out for strategy.

Sainz in his longer post race interview talks about him running on fumes.

Interesting, I'm guessing COTA is in the running to be a double header like Redbull ring was. I've heard Turkey might get cancelled, its supposed to be October 3rd and was moved there from May already and they may be having difficulty getting the Nov 21 TBA race venue found. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_F...d_Championship

BTW anyone see what Marcus Ericsson did today, airborne and then wins the race, holy cr@p

I was texting about this with friends last week. We did nascar at COTA a few months back and loved it. If you go and want to put a group together let me know. I would love to attend with some fellow Tbh’s and F1 guys.

What!?!? I just read this morning that the official name of Miami is the Miami Grand Prix and that the US Grand Prix was to remain at COTA? That and it is supposed to be a May race vs late fall. Say it aint so!

yes, this is what we were told as suite ticket holders. Austin and Miami would remain for at least the foreseeable future and both are obviously popular destinations. Works for me as Montreal is a EZ add for us.

I haven’t been to a race yet but looking to add a few next year. We were in the paddock for the nascar race there and it was great right above the pits!

FYI Japanese GP was just cancelled, its the week before USGP, that race is also in doubt now due to increase in COVID-19 restrictions in Travis County.

I don’t think they cancel COTA. The track may not make it without the race!

Watching replay of Q3 right now and that is one nasty corner at Spa, they've had some big wrecks there the last 2 years, big pile up in one of the feeder series yesterday...

Default 2021 Formula 1 Season!!!

I can see postponing a race due to dangerous driving conditions , but to hand out points and then claim podium positions according to where you qualified ( if I read that correctly)
Hey look , Williams is on the podium .
Crazy.

Well welcome to F1 newbie. It’s archaic at times but it’s all about the money. The teams are probably happy to catch their breath and load up

I got up an watched, good God that was a p#ss poor result, F1 has made great gains in the states the last few year but this is going to set them back, maybe even worse than the farce that was the 2005 USGP where only 6 cars raced. For goodness sake Nascar finished a race at TMS on wednesday last year after it poured sunday-tuesday. They should have abandoned the race and at least there would have been a tiny chance they go back later this season and have the race, if not you make next year a double header and give all those who had tickets today a free pass in for race 1.

Oh wow......George Russell to Mercedes next year. Bottas going to Alfa Romeo.
All British team at Mercedes will be a huge money maker but not sure George will be a good side kick for Hamilton.

They are saying the oval esque turn with the safer barrier at the new track this week is pulling 6G's maybe more, hope they don't have a repeat of CART Texas motor speedaway 2001 that woudl be 2 very bad weekends in a row for F1...

So, I'm speculating here based on a lot of rumors floating.

Kimi and Gio both gone.

Bottas to Alfa

Russel to Mercedes

Albon to Williams

Who takes the other spot at Alfa?

I see a potential power struggle at mercedes. But, I'd really be happy for Russell to get into a car with some pace.

That move for Albon would be awesome. The kid can drive I just think Red Bull was to big of a spotlight for his personality. I don't see Gio surviving to keep a seat either. I gotta think on that other Alfa seat. The car ain't horrible but the team was never solid in my opinion....just seemed out of sync. I heard a Chinese kid was doing serious runs in F2.....and has a boatload of money behind him.

F2 driver to Alfa I think Gio goes to Indycar next year https://twitter.com/KingTacoFan/stat...99150695206918, Albons plan B is Indycar also if he doesn't get the Williams seat he was at the Indy road race in the paddock a few weeks ago.

Saw today on IG that Albon signed with Williams. Spoke with some old driver friends from GT3 we know and they said Russel to Mercedes was a done deal, Bottas is moving to Alfa and now that all makes sense with Albon going Williams and Kimi stepping down. Was pretty happy to see Checo get another year with Red Bull.

I don’t see Russel being a great teammate for Lewis and I think Toto knows he’s bringing in new blood. Lewis is by no means washed up but they need to be planning for the future and Toto is cynical enough to see this. Russel will be going for his own championship and won’t be keen on playing nice, and I would love to see some Niko-esq drama in the garage. Between a teammate and Max putting pressure on him and new regs for ‘22, we gonna see what Lewis still has in the tank.

Well now Alfa says they have interest in Albon, so maybe this is still a bit more fluid than Sky had reported. I would really like to see Albon back in the mix. I’m a fan of Checo, but it would be cool to see gasly back in #2 at RB and Albon in Alfa seat and have a large part of their formula 2 cohort in good cars together.

Love that track they are at, never seen nascar banking like that on a road course. It looks like they built a track in the middle of a British open golf course.

They actually had to get F1 to approve the banking bc it greatly exceeds track limits per the existing safety standard. Good documentary on YouTube about the rebuild of the track and how/why they did what they did. Even the materials they used had to be adapted for the banks and the sand the wind carries onto the track.

I will look that up........I really liked that track layout. F1 had not been there since 1985....Nikki Lauda won that race when I was a junior in college.......ouch!!!!
