I did my driveway a few years back. 300’ long at 8” thick and I believe I used 6-7 truckloads. After three years it’s holding up perfectly.

X2. The geotex fabric is worth its weight in gold. Order it from a Lowe’s, Home Depot or Amazon.

So .....Did you get the answer you were looking for?

You have answers from 30 - 80 tons and from 24 cubic yards to 396 cubic yards.

Look into crushed brick. It does the same job, and is cheaper.

                  This X100!

Part of my road has fabric and part doesn’t, in 10 years I have never added rock to the portion with fabric but have had to add rock every other year on the rest.

                    4" thick = 0.333'

                    12' x 390' x 0.333' = 1,558 cubic feet /27cf per cy = 57.5 CY.

Crushed concrete or aggregate base weighs approx 1.4 tons per cubic yard so.. 57.7CY x 1.4 = 80 tons

I don't know about crushed concrete and what size pieces they have it crushed down to but my gravel guy recommends to put heavy rock down first on dirt/clay, the rock being 4-6" pieces then the smaller stuff (1 1/2 - 2") over that.

This is the technique that most people say to go with. I didn’t use large rock as my base, but wish I would have.

I had a road made from red dirt and I capped it with crushed concrete. I’m not seeing a bunch of issues with it, but I’m going to do the next road differently and see if there’s a difference over time.

Yep, recalled seeing that after my post.

Based on the math some provided, my guess is 80 tons will do it, so that's what I'm aiming for.

Seems that there are two types of geotextile fabrics: woven and non-woven. Which do I I use?
