          Not the same snakes but very closely related. They're in the same genus. Pygmy Rattlesnakes are more colorful. Their patterns and coloration kinda remind me of a Timber Rattlesnake in a way. The Massasauga looks more like a Prairie Rattlesnake.

            I think in those areas you're more likely to see a Pygmy Rattlesnake but I'm not 100% sure on that.

            After doing a little more research on distribution ranges I'm not so sure what I thought was a Western Massasauga might actually be a Desert Massasauga. From what I read there's not much difference as far as looks go but there are slight differences. Padre Island is mentioned in the distribution range of the Desert Massasauga.

              I do not know if this was a joke or not, but all snakes can/will still bite after decapitation.
