    Windmill tank algae bloom

Any tricks on how to control this. I have seen tanks throughout the hill country that are crystal clear. Ours always get green and slimy.

Treat it like a swimming pool. Chlorine shock and phosphate remover?
Probably won’t help though if the water isn’t being cycled through a filter.

Clorox (bleach) or hydrogen peroxide will clean the moss out. Doesn't take much, keep the dilution low enough for drinking for animals and it will kill that moss.

This Cutrine stuff sounds like the ticket

Cutrine Plus is a copper-based algaecide and herbicide. It is applied to various types of water bodies to control filamentous and planktonic algae. It also controls the hydrilla plant and is safe to use in water bodies used for swimming and livestock.

I probably used close to 100gal this season. It’s effective.

Put some coiled copper in it. Won’t stop it completely but I feel as though it made an improvement. Could be a figment of my imagination also. I’ve heard many people say it doesn’t work, but several people I trust have said it does. I’ve seen some YouTube videos where people swear by it for their swimming pools.

Put some good sized gold fish in it. No too many though.

We used goldfish and copper. Some tanks gin clear, other cloudy
                          Winter will help.

Probably plug all the piping to the troughs though.

Put corn meal in a sock and throw it in there. Takes about a week but it will clear it up.
