Wish I was there.

We'll probably go back sooner or later.
Arkansas may be the last Red place I can visit / enjoy/ spend money at before long.
I need to find a getaway to buy over there.

Been thinkin about tryin somewhere in AR that we could get a cabin close to FS roads with some scenery. Also been thinkin about the k trail from clayton to mena, not sure if y'all do that, but looks fun.

We stay in cabins. There are also RV spots available. Leave from where you stay. Legal to ride off road vehicles on all roads in Arkansas. (Except for city limits and interstates) we ride miles and miles of county roads

We rode Mulberry Mountain last week and had a blast. It's a little further drive but lots more trails. Highly recommend it.

If you've never been before, those slate roads get really dusty. So be prepared for that. You're gonna want goggles, and some kind of mask.

We rode with mask.
Those roads are also kinda easy to fishtail on - like rock bearings.

Are the trails good for a sxs or atv only? Could you make the ride in a Samurai or Jeep?

The roads are good for sxs or samari. Some of the trails may be a little tight if somebody is coming the opposite way

We stayed at the RV park listed below. You can ride right across the road and enter the trails or drive down the highway to other trailheads. We rode for 3 days and saw plenty of country. Camp is great, clean showers and restrooms. They even have a small store at the campground in case you need something.

https://www.mulberrymountainlodge.com/

I used OnX Maps for our last ride and used Avenza Maps for this trip. I prefer Avenza but either one will work. I also recommend spending the $12 on a waterproof map at the store in case you lose cell service. We have AT&T and it worked great the entire trip.

We went to Mena last month, stayed at Hansons Camp and road Wolf Pen and the Forche Mnt trails. Forche had better views but the trails were alot steeper/tight so slower driving.

We used the Maprika app, it has several downloadable maps that will work without service if you download ahead of time.

Thanks for the info AgHntr10...havenít ridden the Forche trails but have heard about em. Weíre staying @ Sugar Creek Lodge. Gonna give Avenza maps a go this trip.
Hoping this tablet setup allows for continuous GPS signal. Have the Garmin Glo 2 ordered and will be in Monday to help with signal in the rough stuff. Will report back on this thread the results.

This seems really cool.

I had thought there was a width restriction on ATV/UTV’d in Arkansas? Obviously I was mistaken.

Just getting back from Mena...had a great trip with no major incident...newly added GPS setup worked like a champ...Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 and Garmin Glo 2 stayed paired and held spot on...bluetooth tab to soundbar and kept iPhone freed up...trails were awesome due to the rain on Friday keeping the dust down...scenery was as expected, simply beautiful...hope anyone headed that way has a trip like my group did...

Toss a gold pan and small shovel in the mix.
Tiny specks of gold are rare but they do show up.

My lady isn't a huge fan of heights (She self medicates and covers her eyes when we go up the passes to ski)... I talked about taking the ranger to CO but there is no way she would do it. Are the Ark trails a little less intimidating? I know it ain't the rockies but I don't really want to drive all the way out there and she won't leave the cabin.

Honestly taking a truck/jeep over a lot of passes throughout Colorado will have your butt eating the seat cover. To me taking the UTV is a lot less nerve wracking I guess being lower to the ground and being able to see whatís in front of you on steep inclines gives me more sense of security. As far as Arkansas I would think that the trails would be less sheer than Colorado but this will be my first time going to Arkansas for trail riding, we usually go to Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. One year we want to go to Moab.
