The most difficult part was deciding the parameters - rise/run, step height/depth - to determine how to cut the stringers. We also had to decide if I wanted a platform or to step off directly onto roof deck. Once we decided that, it was as simple as putting the calculations into this link:

We made a jig by clamping a straight edge onto a square to mark the appropriate height/depth on the stringer (and then cut the second based off the first).
