    Bible Study Verses
    Genesis 1:4, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25, 31
And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (NKJV)

    Thoughts
Sometimes, words lose their original meaning. When someone tells us, "You did good," we wonder why they didn't say "awesome" or "excellent"? But, those words are so overused, that they don't seem to satisfy after awhile.

When Moses tells us that God looked at His creation and saw it as good, in today's meaning, we don't think of anything special.

But, God did! The word means "beautiful, best, morally correct, useful, profitable, benevolent, proper, becoming, appealing." The Lord was completely satisfied and even excited about what He had made. In fact, verse 31 says He saw His creation as very good, "superlatively beautiful."

"And the Lord God said, 'It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him, ' " Genesis 2:18 (NKJV).

Our Maker wanted to give us more than "superlatively beautiful." And He did!

    Action Point
We should reserve excellent words, for special usage. "Awesome" is a word that should be reserved for God and His actions. "Beautiful" should be reserved for excellence, like God's creation, and our wives. Maybe we should return to the basic good words and their meanings. I told the young boy (pictured above) what a good shot he made to down his first squirrel. He agreed!

    Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Teach your kids, grandkids, and anyone else that you mentor, fish or hunt with, that the word "trophy" accurately refers to any animal that you legally and humanely harvest. Contrary to the popular slogan, "Size really doesn't matter," it's the experience that really matters!
