2020/2021 east texas hunting thread

Hopefully I get one more go at “ME”. I’ve missed him from 20 minutes-70 minutes last 5 or so hunts. He still has no clue I’m there. Wife has been pretty encouraging and understanding with sits except of course Christmas.... he was under my stand at 7:45 Christmas morning. Passed the 3yo wide 9 again on last sit. 3 bucks together then 2 just broke out into a pretty good fight, lok

Ended up finally getting this guy right before Christmas. Was the only deer I saw for two days. Aged him at 4.5 or 5.5. Pretty good as they normally don’t get that old close to the DCNF.

Last ditch effort this evening. Had the wide 9 that I’ve passed 3 time already come in and a spike. Lone doe shortly after. That’s a wrap for me... seen every deer on that property a minimum of 3 times and could have killed every single deer I’ve seen in East Texas except 1 4pt.......every deer but “Main Event”. Didn’t want to disturb anything tonight so did check cameras, but I’ll bet I missed him this morning or by less Han an hour tonight again.

Pigeon Toed Assassin is on deck now! Doe on another property first and then after “ME”

9 from tonight. I can’t promise him Lola will be as picky. Lol

Anybody ever gotten an exemption to the 13" rule from a GW. Buddy of mine says he did a couple years ago, just showed the GW some pictures from a couple of years showing that he was most likely never going to make 13". Just wondering I've got a nice buck, great mass, real tall, looks great, but he is about 10" wide, I believe he was 3.5 this year.

If he doesn't get wider I may try to meet with GW and see if that is something that can be done or not. This was my first year hunting the place, took a nice doe, but no bucks as all the others I had visit not only didn't meet AR but also were probably 1.5 - 2.5.

GW can’t give permission. It’s not his job and he’s likely not a biologist. Any GW that GAVE PERMISSION should be cited. Any GW that gave leniency is something else

Dang alright. That's why I thought I'd ask the green screen as I had never heard of that before and a google search didn't bring anything up either. Just sucks because he is a great deer (to me), especially in person.

That is a super cool deer and I would be hard pressed not to shoot him regardless. He may not meet the letter of the law, but he absolutely exceeds the spirit/intention of it.

Not to derail, but I’d love to know the officer and county he is giving permission to break the law in?

My neighbor is a piece of &@$%, always has been and forever will be. He has no goodness in him. He’s in his 60’s. No trooper I’ve talked to will let me hit him with my truck... . Extreme but same concept

It’s “justified” possibly but still illegal.

I agree that would be a deer to take out...

But if I make my daughter pass it and you show it to green jeans and he watched an episode of Dr Deer... “ yep kill it”. I got a major problem with that. If it’s all about “management “ get mld and it don’t matter.

Shooting a buck less than 13” that was very close or even past ears and didn’t make it... that’s their judgment call. Shooting one waaaayyy illegal cause your gonna manage 12 acres and he’s old, that ain’t a judgment call that’s disregard of the law reguardless of intent (to me)

Again I agree that deer should be eligible... but a GW giving permission to BREAK A LAW,should be addressed if factual

Don’t want to derail this great thread. Just my opinion

They have been absolutely destroying the feed on our place since mid December.

Almost a white out here for last hour. None even sticking to itself yet. I could go with pigeon toed assassin to the insulated tower with heater and hot coco... but I don’t have a good feeling about wide open appearance in this weather. I think we are going to plan B. A pop up on a ridge in a good thick wind break. Visibility will be about 50 yards at best but last I checked had lots of doe in there. All shooters are broke all to heck or shot. Might be a spike or something. We need 2 more deer to make it through so I told her it’s all on you. If I call it legal and you got a shot here, kill it and we will move on after 1 of 2 big bucks I still got located with horns left

Had hogs dumped a few weeks ago. And on cr too. Always tracks going through field. I knew in my gut it was him, and called and chatted him up without accusing him, but made it know I’d catch whoever it was. His sons in my daughters class and they are good friends, so I’m trying to extend mercy. The tracks stopped as soon as I questioned him which he denied and admitted to I. The same sentence several times. And he traps and sells hogs... all dumped were too small to sell or too small a catch to justify travel. It all just added up, but I figured he got it..
5:00 I hear an atv on us! And we are in the woods! I broke the zipper flying out of the blind. He turned around and had no choice but face me on the back of the property. Of course my daughter is in the blind and he had his son so I had to not let it get out of hand but I made it clear I’d had enough of him and I wasn’t sure how fast that sxs would go, but now was the time to find out. He was texting before I got home and again telling 1/2 truth that I already know the answers to. Typically hog dogger guy. Knows no boundaries, everything is accessible

I filed with the property authority what when on and they really wanted me to go forward cause he’s a pain to them. But it may bite me. I let him off for his sons sake and home his son seen what could have transpired for no reason at all. I kept my cool best I could, my daughter was pretty upset about it

The letter of the law is the letter of the law... if you’re not going to press charges on a poacher then with all due respect i wouldn’t say a GW needs to be confronted over a 12” deer... if your black an white then you’re black on white imo.

And I wouldn’t call a GW over a 9” deer ain’t my job. It ain’t their job to allow someone to break a law before it’s been broken. They have the right to use discretion after the fact.

I want to file on him and know I should. But I won’t because of his son. And I’ll take the fault and blame if it bites me. If I can teach 2 kids a lesson in mercy vs a 80lbs doe that is worth the trade to me
