    Kingwood Heartwood for knife handle.

I met at a man Lowes a few weeks ago that had some great knife handle making wood. It was a deal I just couldn't pass up. He's had the wood for 12 years and never used it. He bought it to make things for his wife and then they were divorced.. I bought some camphorwood, ebony, babinga, Padduck and some I forgot what it is. I scored big time... I'm stoked! pennies on the dollar. Here's the first one of my new haul. Kingwood on Sanbar Stag bolsters that I jimped and dove tailed. It's my model # 104. I have other Kingwood but this is the heart of the tree that has is very purple. It's in the rosewood family, very oily and resistant to rot and splitting.

It smells real sweet like the other rosewoods, but I do wear a respirator, I've done it without one and I'm still alive.

                You ever try Texas ebony?

I've never bought it, looks a lot like black walnut. I like more figured wood.

It really buffs up nicely---and is dark. For figured wood I like mesquite burl.

Me too; I process most of my own wood. I haven't run across any in a while.

I am fortunate to have a friend in the mesquite furniture business and I can go thru his cut-offs and burn pile and find some real jewels---

That's pretty. I got some one time. It was kind of purple. I think I still have a little left.
