Talking 2019-20 Grayson/Cooke

We loved all the rain we got early this summer, but everything looks like a rainforest. We are getting very few pictures, if any. Haven't heard much from others about seeing anything promising yet, either.

To all hunting this area, post up! I need some motivation!

Still very few on camera.. nothing promising..

At this point, all I'm gonna think about is Sept 1 and forget deer season for a while..

I hunt the same area and don't see much this time of year either.

I think the deer find shade in higher open country where the breeze helps keep them cool and they escape the bugs when it's stupid hot.

I'm relieved to read this.

I got on a lease in Cooke county, eastern edge of property is Grayson and I've seen nothing but pigs and a few doe since I put cameras out in June.

I went out yesterday and one spot which was covered in pigs had corn piling up under the feeder for the past week.

Have a bachelor group been coming by 1-2 times/week. And pigs like everybody else. Change is coming...

Default Tons of pigs.

Trapped and disposed of a few hogs. No deer since hogs moved in thick about a month ago.

Got the hogs boogered for now and the bucks are coming back. Night time only though.

All I've got pics of is coons thus far. The pigs aren't even coming to hand corn. However, I have seen two of our big boys in fields right before dark. So, I know they're out there, they just haven't made had to start relying on supplemental feed yet.

What is the best attractant to bring the pigs in around us?

Honestly, they love corn coat. I think their numbers are just generally way down with the local guy running dogs constantly. So, don't be discouraged at first if you don't see them. When season starts and the pressure drops off they'll come back around.

Lol our place is just woods. I'm getting the hog itch. I would have done anything to get those things off our cattle ranch though.

Only shooter buck I've seen in person before November was on the last day of bow season in 2011. If I was planning to take off work a week to hunt it would be the week of Thanksgiving.

My place is in southern Cooke. Been hunting it for 20ish years.

Finally got a couple bucks on camera. No shooters but it gives me hope they are starting to get out out of their summer pattern. We've got a couple of the smaller ones already shed velvet and a few still in full velvet.

That's awesome for who is hunting them.. I have a big, what I think, is a 3 point. Crab on one side and what looks to be a 18" main beam with no tines. If I get a clearer pic of him and it's a true 3, then he'll be on my hit list.

Still not much activity on feeders. Have caught a few on trails but nothing special. Had a nice bachelor group in May that hasn’t been around since.
Hopefully the cooler temps in October will spice things up soon.
Pig action is in full force with lots of piglets on the ground.
How are things going with Jimmy over there Hully? Hear he is an interesting fellow to put it nicely.

Thatís great news. I know he is taking over the ranch out by sivells bend and lots of folks are very upset. It he tries to make the same rules out there that he did in walnut bend then there will likely be a lot of vacancies in Cooke county.

Yea, I'm definitely much happier with the current ranch manager.

The foundation they use for the biologist recommendations is some of the worst recommendations I've ever heard..

But, its 30 mins from the house and its year round and I have seen what the area can produce..

Myself, my boy, and 2 other lease buds will be out in the morning in north Cooke county.. no target bucks, so everything that walks will be a game time decision.. pigs and yotes are always on the hit list though..

I'll be sitting for the first time tomorrow morning. My cell camera on one spot isn't showing anything other than leaves blowing but, I'm hoping this cold front blowing through tonight/tomorrow morning will get something moving.

Well, no deer this evening.. but definitely not a failure. Hot and nearly 90 when I got in stand. Feeling that first north gust while in the woods made it worth it. Rain was light and intermittent. Just sat thru it.. didn't kill a deer, but feeling God's powerful hands at work makes it just as nice. Needed a hoodie the last 30 mins. I'll be back in the morning.
