Default Buying my first suppressor

I got the green light to pull the trigger on my first suppressor. Tomorrow Iíll be going up to Austin and buying a SilencerCo hybrid 46! Itís going to be a long wait to get it!

Anyone have a hybrid? Iíll be suppressing a .458 socom.

Yes the wait sucks. Are you doing individual or trust? Wait times on individuals have been coming down from what I've read.

Go ahead and get you a good rimfire can at the same time if you are wanting one...trust me, you will end up with one anyway & might as well start waiting now.

sub 22 shooting/hunting is a hoot.

These should be over the counter purchases. It's a shame it takes so long.

I have two of them. Switch them between several rifles. Latest is a 450 Bushmaster SBR. This is my swine slaying rig.
Yeah the wait times are atrocious, but the sooner you start the sooner it will be over with. hopefully you will have it next hunting season.

How does it sound on the 450? Have you been happy with it overall? How is it on 556/223 and 308?

Find you a good redneck dealer with a range. Most will let you at least shoot your can while it's in jail. I do that all the time.

I canít speak for the Hybrid but Iím gonna say the Crux is not hearing safe. It is the only can I own that still rings my ears without hearing protection. I donít know if thatís the nature of big bore cans but itís still pretty loud. None of my other cans ring my ears including 2 other Crux cans I own.

Exactly. You can buy then over the counter in most European countries. Even the ones with much more strenuous gun laws. Problem is, the government ain't giving that free 200 bones back for nothin.

As good as on my 300 blackout if not better. I dont need ear plugs with it, and thrusts my main purpose for it. Hate my ears ringing. In the stand when I shoot. Haven't shot any subs through it yet, but I'm confident that the loudest part with subs will be the action cycling. If you're anywhere near Lufkin. You're welcome to come shoot mine.

I don't see where it says it can handle 338 Lapua pressure. Does your manual say it can? Not being argumentative, I am considering them for my next can.

Focus grasshopper! I didn't say I was waiting because it takes a long time to get approved. My statement is all about the bureaucracy and red tape involved in what should be a simple over the counter purchase. No reason at all for it to be any different than a background check when you buy a gun.

Interested in this. Are you talking about something like a mag light suppressor with stainless or aluminum freeze plugs? Where would an honest man go to see about getting the paperwork started on something like this?

Don't move to the EU just yet. The police get to visit your home to look at your firearm storage, and then contact your doctor to ask about your mental health. And with no 2nd Amendment, what is so easily given can easily be taken away (read up on NZ if you haven't already). I hate our NFA wait times and $200 taxes, but Iíll take American gun laws over any other country in the world.

lol.. Make no mistake I have absolutely no intention of going anywhere near there. I wasn't saying their gun laws are better, just saying that suppressors aren't considered guns. They're mufflers.

I have an AAC cyclone for my 300bo.. bought it 6 or 7 years ago.. wish I would have done a bit more research and asked around.

Kind of want another thats a bit lighter and has the QD function so I can switch between rifles easier and still have a break.

Itís so funny......the first can I got, I was consumed with the decibel ratings, and running subs. I ended up with a 21oz can, and built like a tank. By the third one, all I was interested in was weight and accuracy, so I got an ultra 7. Never looked at the decibel ratings on it.

Is the wait for the can or your paperwork to be approved? Thinking of starting the paperwork now and pick up a can when its all signed and sealed. While im asking questions, is it feasible to shoot super sonic without ear pro?

Some will say yes, but they most likely already have hearing damage or they soon will. I shoot suppressed most of the time and I still wear Sordin MSAís for every shot. Even when hunting. I shoot 4000-5000 6mm and 6.5mm rounds per year. Even with a can, youíll still be deaf if you donít wear ear pro when shooting that much. I have Thunderbeast Ultras, Silencer Co, Shark, Scorpion, & Silencer Tech.....they all hurt my ears without ear pro with center fire calibers.

The wait is for the ATF to approve your Form 4, the form used to transfer it from the dealer to you. The form requires the serial number of the can, so the can purchase is step 1. Completing the Form 4 is step 2. Waiting is step 3.

Shots from bolt guns are plenty hearing safe imo. Rapid fire from a semi auto can get a little loud, but many do not wear ear pro.

Find a dealer that does demos and go check one out. Take your checkbook.

I guess as always, opinions vary. Shoot 30-50 rounds from your center fire rifle with a can and no ear pro. That night when you are laying in bed and it’s quite, you’ll be able to hear your ears ringing, if they aren’t already damaged to the point at you can’t hear the ringing anymore.

You need to Efile if you want the wait to be sub 30 days. If you mail it you can be waiting the same amount of time as a a form 4

I have both a form 1 and form 4. The form 1 was approved in 23 days. Took 2 beers to drill the holes on lathe, It weights 15.6 ounces and is full titanium minus two steel baffles. Its a 30 caliber direct thread can that cost about 350 dollars in parts plus engraving. My form 4 took 233 days to be approved and weights 12 ounces and is also direct thread. The cost of my form 4 was 850 dollars. The sound or accuracy isnt different between the two. Im a firm believer in the form 1s if you can find the parts. Lots of good info out there.

Heard good things about the can for the larger calibers. About to order one in Iowa for a 45-70 Gov and the wait time here (and I believe nationally) is changing due to regulations with NFA. We are seeing wait times around 3 months for MOST NOT ALL orders placed past June. Your stuck in the muck if ordered/cashed before June. But as always this could change so who knows.
