Dang that was crazy. What a lying cheating pos scumbag.

This reminds me of of the Marc Anthony dip**** that created the guille suit and was always "killing" these giant bucks on the ground supposedly wearing that thing. Turns out he was just buying giant sheds and doing some taxi work in the field and attaching these antlers to smaller bucks he killed.

Some of the questions I had also. Not just that some continued to fish with him after they seen him doing sketchy stuff. These guys were “intimidated” pretty easily..

Following the story, they didnít all/any have much proof. Sounds like they were relying on a fake reputation he seemed to be able to uphold.

Whatís gets me, is that all of those lakes are really small, compared to what we all know. How they didnít catch on sooner by just watching is what I donít get.

Regarding the snagging. Was the water so clear that he was able to sign cast/snag bass on shallow water beds?

No denying he’s a cheater.

He’s handled a ton of giant bass.
Besides the 1 tourney and snagging witness, I was hoping we’d get a little more of how he caught them.

Maybe, some of those sight fishing guys just have better eyes than the rest of us, fished one event with and water was stained at best and boater I drew was sight fishing beds. He even brought me up to the front deck to show how it worked and I couldn't see squat of what he was looking at, and yes I had polorized glasses too.

Yes the water is almost crystal clear in those lakes. Long makes underwater videos of schools of giant bass in those lakes and usually thereís a good 20-30ft range of visibility.

good christian boy... probably a misunderstanding.

it's weird to watch him out there by himself snagging bass-- I guess that's enjoyable to him? I can understand if you're winning tournaments with them, at least there's a financial motivation (why I don't like those tournaments), but after he's banned he still goes out just to snag... strange. He also doesn't move like a skilled or experienced angler. Maybe the cheating is what gets him high... feeling like he got one over on people.

Not sure why they just couldnít confront him like grown men. Donít get me wrong good write up the guy filming him had some real ninja skills. But anyone with eyes could see he was a cheater. Maybe the town was just too proud they had a star and weíre more intimidated by his ego/persona rather than the man himself. Hard to believe Several grown men were that scared of him And let him slide after some of the stunts he pulled. Just odd they had to take the long road around to get from A to B. Makes me feel like there is more to the story.

I am curious after reading that about a few things-

1. He seems to have only fished little local tournaments. No major tournaments or anything like that.

2. The prize amounts in that article didn't sound great. So he had to have a job that paid bills. Curious about that.

3. He still never really got "caught" doing anything besides snagging some fish, and even then I think if you release them its not a huge deal.

4. If they could prove anything I wonder if he's looking at jail time for cheating and winning the cash.

The biggest tournaments that go out west are the FLW western costas, in baseball terms thats considered triple A, Bassmaster rarely goes out west anymore. The WON bass and ABA's are a tier right below those FLW costas probably on par with the FLW BLF's elsewhere, these were not little non important fruit-jar tournies. Him winning all the time just had the entry numbers way down.

I didn't know that. But still 3k pay out for first place? You cant buy a 100k bads rig, fill it with gas 4 times a week, and pay bills off that I wouldn't think.

Nah the cheats get weeded out on the way to the top, see the story of Nate Wellman, theres a few shady ones no doubt in FLW still, I would say all the guys in the Bassmaster elites or MLF are the real deal.

True, it also mentioned several anglers, including Long, were given pass code and open hours to catch big fish to increase the use of the lake and campgrounds. The author was also one of these anglers and went only once because he felt it was unfair.

He was fishing slow; snagging them or foul hooking them when the fish was removing the lure from the nest? Same/same?

Was he catching fish before the fishing tournaments and sneaking them into his daily tournament catch, 99.99% YES!

Regarding West Coast events, the WON Bass series was a real big deal back in the day out West. There was not a lot of our traditional tours we now know that traveled past Sam Rayburn really. Even Amistad and Falcon were long hauls for the circuits. Back in the early late 90's and 2000's, those payouts were pretty decent outside of BASS and FLW.

Long worked in the rebar business from what the article stated.

WON bass is still a big deal, their big event is the US open on lake Mead and this year they announced the payout to the winner will be 100K, thats the same as a Bassmaster, MLF or FLW tour event win. Its the only 100K event anyone can enter without having to qualify somehow that I know of, I'm not real sure about some of those big bass events but thats not a traditional tourney.
