Congrats to Marty "Buff" Thomas--LSBA Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Marty Thomas "Buff" who will be inducted into the Lone Star Bowhunters Assn's Hall of Fame at this year's Annual Awards Banquet!! Come on out June 11th to Reunion Ranch for Marty's induction!! Marty's trophies with his recurve are many and impressive!, as well as his service, time and donations to the bowhunting community! Thanks for all you do, Marty!! Congrats again!!

    Here is Marty's Bio:

    Marty (Buff) Thomas

    Born November 5, 1958

Married to Lisa for over 20 years, they have three sons and four grandkids with another on the way.

Growing up in the East Texas piney woods Marty started bowhunting at age ten with a recurve. There were few deer in that part of the state so rabbits and squirrels were the main targets with taking deer just being a dream.

Somewhere around 1972 the Longview Archery Club held an open house. It was an open invite to anybody and everybody to come prepare for bow season. To a young teen aged boy these men were larger than life and left him with a burning desire to hunt big game with his bow.

Marty never lost the desire to chase big game with a bow. He has had the good fortune to travel all over the globe and hunt some of the greatest trophies the world has to offer. He has taken over 20 species of African game along with hunting in Australia, Canada and most all of the western states.

He is one of a handful of men in modern time to have taken three of Africa’s Big Five with traditional equipment, which includes Cape buffalo, Lion and Elephant. His hunting videos were shown to the parliament in Germany in an effort to establish a bow season. As an author, Marty has had over a dozen articles published in hunting magazines.

Those men from the 70s left him with another desire as well, that of passing it along.

Serving a Vice President of the LSBA Marty was deeply involved with the youth programs and carried this over to running the youth archery camps for the Boy and Girl Scouts.

As the owner of Big Oak Bowhunting ranch, he along with his wife Lisa donate a youth weekend every year where kids have the opportunity to bow hunt for exotics and hogs free of charge.

He also opens his range to locals every year before the opening of deer season to allow folks the opportunity to practice with their equipment and sort out any problems they may need to work through.

Marty is a Master Mason and a life member and sponsor of the Lone Star Bowhunters as well as the Traditional Bowhunters of Texas.
