Saw a video on Facebook of several snook washed up already. Snook really dont do well in the cold. It's a shame cause they had become plentiful in the LLM. They are may favorite fish to catch.

I pray for all, including all the wildlife and fish. As a coasty I have seen two fish kills and how devastating it was to the fishing and industry. I am hopeful the extended cold (but not devastating) like some have stated above may lead to less an impact than the fast cooling and extended days below 32 we experience in the prior two fish kills. No doubt we will see fish kills, the hope is that it's not the worse case scenario.....

Many sea turtles have also had to be rescued along the coast.

Drove over Karancua Bay today. Totally frozen. Really low tides so hopefully it pushed the fish into deeper water before this mess.

I heard this was at Port A ferry, not from that area if that is incorrect but my area further up the coast may see the same kind of scene. Nature is fragile for sure.

Not sure what your desired outcome is, but that graph is no predictor of bad things for the fish...

The '83 and '89 kills, the temperature dropped like that in 24-36 hours... as that graph shows, this was a prolonged event over a week... the fish very likely migrated to deeper water and that should help. Not saying all the fish will be OK, but it won't be like the earlier freezes... in the 80's freezes, many fish were trapped in holes that they ran to when the temps started dropping, but they weren't deep enough... With this prolonged but gradual drop, they likely were able to get to deeper water safely.

Leemo makes his living in our coastal waters.... I'm listening to him.

If I recall, the most devastating kills came on mullet and shad and that's likely what will start to show up first... Like Leemo posted the mangrove snapper and snook being tropical fish, could be wiped out here... dang shame too since both had made such a great comeback.

Freshwater lakes that have tialpia will see them hit bad too... They can't take anything below 50-55 degrees, shad too...
Exactly

While I agree on the ecosystem, if you're coming to Texas and can't string 3 trout on meat in one day, you're doing it wrong.

Several of us here have wore ourselves smooth out on trout in the bay and the surf on plastics and not strung a single fish. If we see a big kill, I have no problem doing it again to help out. If I want fish, I'll go run some trot lines

Looks like a major fish kill over a lot of the Texas coast. Hopefully it won’t take them long to come back. It just seems like such a waste!

Caleb McCumber posted a video on facebook, him and a few other guides went around the bay yesterday afternoon. Lots of dead baitfish but not many trout & reds floating, but apparently that might not happen right away. Did say bunch of dead snook & trout in harbor.

Few dead fish in the Harbor.......mostly baitfish
Drove down to the beach yesterday, didnít see any dead fish in the bar ditch
Iím going out Saturday to look around, it will be the first break on the wind
Water temp right now is at 39í, lowest it got was 29-31í.......
Weathermen got the forecast right this time! Last week I figured it wouldnít get this cold, I was definitely wrong....
As far as a fish kill in the Bay! Wonít know the event until the water warms a bit and they start to float, but if the dead fish stays down long enough, you wonít see it float, then it will be hard to access the damage. Iíll post Saturday if I see something interesting. Going over to the Harbor in a few to look again

Just got back from driving down the beach, about 4 miles down starting seeing dead trout , croakers etc.... washed up, my thinking is they died in the bay or channels and the tide carried them out and the washed ashore, thereís not a lot of fish washed up, but enough scattered here and there to make you wonder??
I didnít drive behind 3-mile(was in my dually), May go later to 3 mile in my Beach Truck. Blowing hard out of the North now, cold tonight and tomorrow night, spoke to my retired Chief Biologist buddy on the phone, he predicts not much could have survived, too cold to long, in the event of a kill, thereís still hope for you fishermen, lots of good Broodstock in the Gulf, both trout and reds!

There's no doubt the LM and LLM suffered a significant fish kill. I'd imagine if the states going to step in it will be in those areas.

I went out again this morning to capture the progress of the clean up of our shorelines here in Rockport.

See the video here:
https://youtu.be/adquciw6CQs

The Aransas County Navigation District has been working hard to clean things up. I've been watching for any reports from Texas Parks and Wildlife, but I'm sure their assessment will take some time.
