phase off and become a thing of the past if NV get so good that night time looks like daytime color like that ... you'd only use like a thermal monocular to spot , then go color NV after that ... i mean talk about seeing a cow vs a pig .. that nikon is absolutely phenomenal ... and when you look at the price point , it doesn't seem like it would be too far off to get nikon to come out with a digital NV with those kind of performance... |

I have not seen a scope yet, that competes with it as an overall scope. Yes one scope may have it beat on video out/recording. But altogether it is very hard to beat WIth that being said, yes it is a matter of time here shortly before I think Trijicon upgrades OR someone else knows them off the pedestal with newer technology |

The scope is iOS capable with the app. I'm running in on my iPhone 8 and it's been working awesome. I haven't heard anything about it being updated to Mackbook compatible and I wouldn't hold my breath on it. Not saying it won't happen but that has to be super low on the priority list I'd assume.
No Thermion XQ38's have shipped to the US since before Christmas because the main factory had to shut down for 3 weeks in January due to a COVID outbreak. However, I have an allocation list of what's coming this month and I think you're going to be sitting pretty. ![]() Quote:
I can't speak for what is going to happen in the future with iRay USA's customer service but they are claiming they are going to have excellent customer service and with a promise of a 5 year warranty with a 5 business day repair/replace guarantee, they better be able to cash the check they just wrote with that claim and I believe they can. If they can't....well their name will be mud quickly. Time will tell but being privy to the "behind the scenes" building of iRay USA over more than a full year of time, labor and effort, I don't see them dropping the ball right out of the gate but I've been wrong before, we'll have to wait and see. |

well, i'm mad now .. called sightmark beginning of february and they told me i had a wraith 4k allocated to me , ready to ship as soon as it's tested .. didn't see it so called today and i'm no longer even allocated ...and the 57 they have left are spoken for... they said we take care of warranty first , and mine was warranty as my almost new hd failed , and i opted to upgrade ... so now they are saying they have 1100 ordered but no timeline ... i'm not so sure i like what i'm hearing.. so much for customer service

I'm going to take a shot at a total thread derail here.
Vehicle mounted thermal. I know there are probably high dollar turn key systems out there. That ain't my budget, lol. So let me bounce some random ideas out here. I know there are magnetic base roof mounts out there that have remotes. Folks use them for spotlights and such. If a guy could rig one of those with a picatinny rail, then a Hogster or similar could be mounted on it. The thermal would be vehicle mounted and remote controlled at that point. Now what a guy would need is a way to view it. Even though I have a Hogster I am no expert on them at all. Is there a way to run a cable to it, bring the cable in through a door or sliding rear window, then hook it up to a tablet or video monitor? Just live view, no recording. My idea here is not scanning running down the highway at 75 mph. The goal is 10-30 mph cruising on private land looking for sounders of pigs. When approaching potential fields kill the lights, use the thermal to drive with no lights and creep up within stalking distance of sounders of pigs. Also 360 scanning without opening doors, creating lights and noise. Help me brainstorm on how to make this workable. Ideas, links to parts, whatever. Friend of mine has a remote control thermal system in his truck, we watch the monitor as he drives, pretty slick, but not a cheap system. I am trying to figure a way to mimic it with my Hogster, yet still be able to pop it loose quickly and use it as a handheld scanner. |

Hogster (what I am really interested in since that is what I have) does not internal record, but it does have video out to go to an MDVR. A 12' USB-C to USB cable is not expensive. But I have no idea what to plug it in to for viewing, or how to do that.
Looking around there are quite a few different remote magnetic mounts that could be used. The Hogster has a QD mount already so to me a rail would be the easy thing for rapid on/off. |

And maybe things have changed. This was 3 years ago. But myself, and 2 buddies all had VERY VERY poor CS. Several calls and VM's and not returned for 5-6 days. All the while IG videos/content was being uploaded daily of the nights hunts before. It was like pulling an arm and leg trying to get ahold of them. Which worries me(justifiably) if they are the "owners" of IRAY |

So from your experience, you say MK1 is not the same quality thru the eyepiece as a Trijicon. From the videos it looks better and more detail? Or am I wrong? |

Got out and played a little last night. 20 degrees and 10 mph wind, it was pretty chilly for this old man. Not much moving except coyotes and jackrabbits, but the coyotes were moving good! Using my Hogster 35 as a scanner and my XQ50 Thermion to shoot. 90 grain TNT's in a 6.5 Grendel.

Hopefully we’ll see more AGM Rattler video content as the first retail batches are shipped over the next several days. I’ve been disappointed in the limited number of videos that have been posted on social media by those who received scopes to test in advance of the production units.

How will the snow affect thermal? I'm guessing it will be great with snow on the ground, but what about while the snow is falling?

Just like fog or humidity. Kills the picture. You’re reading the temp of the moisture in the air and not having near the visibility you would with clear skies.

For those of you that run large fields and walk in, are you running tripods or bipods? Obviously the tripod I’m sure is more stable, but is it worth the extra bulk/leg to mess with over a bipod?

Tripod absolutely. I’ve shot off Primos trigger sticks bipod a few times before, and while they work they’re nothing like a good tripod. Another good thing I like about tripods is leaving them standing with the rifle (bolt open of course) facing the direction of fire while we go look for deads etc. Usually have a rifle mounted flashlight or laser we turn on that directs us where we need to go. Then we can always come back to point A easily, and start over, pick up brass, etc when needed. Believe it or not it’s not to difficult to get turned around in the complete dark when stomping all over fields.

I bought a manfrotto camera tripod .. they are built like tanks ,and you can adjust the fluidity of the pan tilt to make it as tight or loose as you want then i use the qd off that with either a picatinny mount, so the gun is basically holding itself or i use a padded shelf .. got those from snipers hide long time ago ...
tripod was painted fde so no shine .. works well and makes 0 noise! |

Second night out only produced 2 hogs but they were considerably larger than the ones on the previous hunt...
Speaking of tripods my buddies decided it was easier packing the tripod than laying on the ground busting clods! [url]https://www.youtube.com/watch?

Bad look for the Rico mk1:
There is a building lag time between what you’re seeing on the screen vs what you’re actually pointing at. Sounds like it may be a rare issue, but he said iRay told him it’s 2%, and 1/50 isn’t good odds. Go to 12:50 for his display lag test. https://youtu.be/HcMr2cV_WDU He says in a different video that he has mailed the unit to iRay so they can update the firmware or replace it. Yup I’ve been real happy with the XQ50, was going with the XQ38 but Jason had this one on the shelf and the hogs were killin’ my fields. Going to the fifty has also helped scan 800 yds easy and detect heat along the treeline south of my house. From hogs to calving cow check I’ll always have a thermal at the house.
