As mentioned in the 2020 thread, it's time for a new one especially considering all of the new optics that have been released and are being released in the near future.

Nobody had a chance to get the Thermion XM30 out and get some video yet? This is only video I have found so far. Think as of now it should be able to do anything I could ever need or want but is nice to get to see videos of it in action first.

Aint nothing wrong with that image quality for $2300. For someone who needs a 3.5x base mag and doesn't want to spend a ton this is a steal.

Yep, lot of new scopes being released and everyone is slow on getting up videos that show their capabilities. If you have enough room to need 3.5 power and it meets your budget, it appears to be a good scope. My fields aren’t big enough for that high power so I’m going with the Thermion XQ38 2.5 power on my AR and Rattler TS35 2.2 power for my handheld/loaner. Last edited by Lip; 01-28-2021 at 05:51 PM. |

I scrounged up 2-3 more on youtube but the optic has been in hands for 3 weeks at this point. Was hoping to at least have some one do an in depth review by now with some kill footage. They don't even have the XM30 on pulsars website yet which is mind boggling as well.

From OutdoorLegacyGear’s website: UPDATE: January 27, 2021 **Production has been extremely limited due to the coronavirus delays, with only a few hundred Wraith 4K's having been produced so far. Sightmark is expecting some more shipments over the coming months but because to the small production numbers expected, we are advising customers to expect at least a 4 to 5 month wait time for new back orders placed. |

The Wraith HD is not the same as a Wraith 4K pro. There are two models of the Wraith HD, 2x base magnification (newer one) and 4x base magnification (original)(4K pro is 3x). Both of these use AA batteries in the unit and 123A in the illuminator. I have not had any issues with battery life. I have however started using a Sniper Hog light with rechargeable batteries instead. I have both models, and prefer the 2x for the wider field of view. I'm typically hunting thick cover and shots are less than 100 yards. I have posted several videos on the youtube if interested. $400 is cheap, they are worth it, but pick the right one.

I agree with this though I haven’t looked through the 4x. I recently bought the 2X and use the Sniper Hog Light 66 LRX Illuminator. 4X would have too narrow a field of view for me but if you’re hunting a feeder or large fields, it would probably be fine. |

Appreciate the feedback
![]() The three he has are all 4x. Yeah, I've read good and bad. Either they really really hate it, or it's not bad at all ![]() What were your issues with it? Most likely not going to buy it anyway, just getting impatient waiting on the W-4K. IMO the cost of the W-4K seems pretty cheap, if it's as good as people say... |

IMO the 4X SUCKS. I much prefer the 2X. If I hunted from a blind over a feeder I think the 4X would be ok, but not for my style.

OK, so I went and pulled the trigger on the W-4K max today. Supposed to be here Wed. Feb 3rd. Probably mount it on .308 a-bolt rifle that already has a picatinny on it. What else do I need besides some spare lithium batteries?
I also can mount it on my M4 flat top but really want to be able to switch it back and forth on different guns. |

this was my wraith hd 4x ... unfortunately a couple weeks after taking this video it started shooting 6" groups at 100 .. sent it for repair , they couldn't fix it so I paid extra and they are supposed to ship me a 4k ... been waiting over a month, but they said they now have one allocated .. they received 400 of them ... hopefully in a few weeks it will show up on my door ... i really liked the hd, but i agree , the field of view is small ... as you can see in the video , i didn't even zoom in for these kills ..

trijicon reap-ir is still my favorite .. i just got a cable to add a dvr to it .. video quality sucks , it doesn't give it justice , this was last night .. didn't realize i turned off the gas on my gun (war receiver) so it didn't cycle ... only got one shot, and cable came unplugged ..
friend of mine just got the new ATN and he likes it .. looks great but he keeps having to send it back due to glitches ... i think for the money, the thermion are hard to beat .. |

Hey guys I've been getting a lot of questions about the soon to be released iRay Rico 640 MK1 for $5,999. Hans and I did a full field review of it last week on The Late Night Vision Show and you can check it out below.
Warning: there have been a couple guys here who have complained that our reviews are 45 mins long. This is a weekly podcast and our reviews are IN DEPTH. If you want a quick 5 minute run down of just the specs, someone else will do that. If you want a 10-15 minute review with a lot of video from the scope in the field and a shorter condensed review, Hans will have that soon on his Youtube Channel, HansETX. But if you're considering a $6,000 scope and want to know everything about it.....check out the video below. After 143 weeks straight, we've found what works for us and our listeners, so we're sticking to it for now. Thanks guys. - Jason |

Great price and great scopes for the money. It's not thermal, but it doesn't come with the thermal price tag either. I would recommend getting a handheld thermal scanner though as it makes finding the critters 100x easier and you will find other uses for it as well (animal recovery, scanning before daylight when bowhunting, neighborhood watching, etc..). But for shooting, the Wraith does just fine.

Wanted to give you guys some first hand experience on battery life on my Thermion XP50 and Axion XM30. I have been reading a whole lot of conflicting stories on forums and FB groups saying how terrible the battery life is. I went coyote hunting Saturday evening into Sunday morning and I wanted to get some real first hand data on the battery life more to prove to myself I wasn't crazy or delisiounal.
We hunted for about 6.5 hours. I timed our stands which is how long my devices were running. We hunted for just over 3 hours out of the 6.5 hours. I was turing the unit on and off during driving, stalking and setting up at a stand. At the end of our hunt my thermion went through the APS2 removable battery (smaller battery that comes with it) completely and the internal battery had 85% left. On my Axion XM30 which only has the removable APS3 had 17% battery left. We were NOT recording video or had the wifi activiated for streaming. I also have both of them set on the semi auto setting for the NUC. I do not get carried away with the amount of times I NUC it but I have no information of how much this helps with battery life if any. Are there scopes out there that have better battery life? Of course. It would be foolish to say that it has better battery life than say the Trail XP50. With that said I was slap wore out by the end of our hunt and I couldnt have imagined of staying up long enough to run the battery dead in the Thermion. What I will suggest is to get a spare APS3 battery. This is a no brainer for someone like me who has a Thermion and Axion so the APS3 battery works in both. I was running dangerously close to the Axion running out of juice so having the spare APS3 battery kept me from worrying I was going to run it dead. Long story short I think there is nothing wrong with the battery life and what it provides is very respectable and more than sufficient for the average thermal hunter. As mentioned before I have seen a bunch of what I think is bad information posted in the internet and I had a dealer say he had a guy that said the APS2 battery would last 30 mins and the APS3 last 45 mins and I just think these are folks that are trying to stir up mess or they have a defective battery and/or device because everyone that I know that actually has one of these devices have experienced what I have. |

For reference I’ve had a couple Trails and normally carry a Helion XP50. The Helion is usually around 50% after a FULL night hunting with the smaller IPC7 battery. My XP50LRF would start on its second IPC7 around 4:30-5am and we usually hunt to 6ish. The XP38 would just barely make it a full night. Last edited by TX03RUBI; 02-01-2021 at 06:36 PM. |

The videos I’ve watched don’t do the XG vs XP justice IMO. Comparing them in person the difference is definitely more noticeable. Either way both are quality units.

Hey guys, I'm going to pull the trigger on a thermal this year. Our lease has 2 or 3 big wheat fields, about 500 yards across. So shots of 100 to 250 yds would be likely. Maybe also sit at a blind or two, with shots around 100 to 200 yds.
What do you recommend for my first thermal? I want to shoot pigs and coyotes. Would mount on my 6.5 Grendel or my 5.56. Budget: under $3000. I assume that's a big enough budget? |

Do you want video recording capabilities? Sound with video? There are several sub-$3k scopes that have been announced and about to be shipped so you’ll get a more educated answer in a month or two but keep your eyes on the Bering Optics Hogsters and AGM Rattlers. Both have a couple models in your price range. Hogsters would need an external DVR for recording, Rattlers have onboard recording. If you can put several hundred more dollars with it the Pulsar Thermion XQ38 would be a good option. It has recording and sound. Call Jason with Outdoor Legacy Gear. He’ll ask some questions and give you a solid recommendation. |

They are both great scopes and extremely similar. The Rattler is appealing because he includes an American Defense QD mount (it pushes the scope far enough back for bolt guns too!), it has internal video recording, a better button/control layout and it cost less. Hogsters have been around for over a year and will continue to sell well because of their known quality and the 4 year warranty (3 yr on the Rattler) but the Rattlers are going to be extremely popular this year for good reason. If you topped your budget out just a touch higher and you'll really be shooting 100+ yards all the time, I'd highly suggest the Bering Optics Super Hogster 3x magnification. Great image quality and the 3x will be a big help once you get out over 100 yards. If you have to keep the budget down below $3,000 you could go with the Hogster 35 or AGM Rattler 35, 2x and 2.1x magnification respectively but you're going to find yourself zooming up a lot and losing your image quality. If you're really doing a lot over 100+ you could go with the new Pulsar Thermion XM30 3.5x, which is a lot of mag for close range shooting but great for the longer shots and it's very affordable at $2295. Feel free to call me some time if you'd like to discuss all the options in detail. I'm going to go ahead and tell you that thermals right now are exactly like ammo and it's probably going to be that way for at least a few more months. I'd plan ahead in case the scope you decide on has a wait to get it. Right now guys are calling all over wanting scopes for coyote tournaments that start in 1-3 weeks and they have a 0% chance of getting one. Just be aware of the current supply/demand issues. i'm going to be on the lookout for a good but budget spotter , all my shots are under 200 yards , and i don't need bells and whistles ... just something i can just fire up and look around as i'm driving around ... i have a reap-ir for the actual work, helmet mount would be a bonus , I use a pvs 14 right now , but i've been busted a few times when they saw me first .. it wouldn't have happened with thermal. .. anyhow .. input appreciated

My Wraith 4K max came today. Now for the learning curve. I did turn it on and image is crystal clear in daylight and color is natural but vivid. Waiting for night to get here. Meanwhile charging the internal battery and figuring out which gun it goes best with. Menu's gonna take some learning but I think once the proper settings are made it will a matter of just hitting the on button.
