Happy New Year! 2020 sucked but hopefully deer season turned it around for you! It certainly helped mine.
![]() Aight folks ...we had 2017 with 1781 coons, 2018 with 860, 2019 w/ 791 and 2020 w/ 1369 meeting their demise. That’s 4,801 confirmed food bills paid! ![]() Bring on a bountiful 2021 for helping save those turkey and quail eggs as well as those feeder timers and solar panels.. ![]() Most of us already have our traps but in case some folks don't, I'm going to repost the pics I did last year in case somebody wants to jump into the fun. If you don't have any coon cuffs/dogproof traps, here is your motivation to go get a set or two or 10... ![]() ![]() When you get one or some, post your number and add it to the current running total. Also if you don't mind, list how you got them... ie, trap type, bait used, or weapon if hunting them ....or of course vehicle kill. ![]() We'll get after them hot and heavy this March and April and on any of our trips out west on lease work trips this summer using Duke dogproofs corn, protein and/or marshmallows.... ![]() Good luck! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I was hoping to be out west this past weekend to thump some coons before turkey lay eggs this spring so I could start this off with some numbers....but things didn't work out. Got several projects this spring out there this year so I'm going to be making a bunch of trips. Beware bandits!.. ![]() |

Yes sir, I had real good luck with my dog proofs last year.
I dribbled the same corn/protein mix I was putting in my deer feeders into them. Worked great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Trapped my first one ever this weekend with a dukes trap. Put some wet protein pellet and some buck jam together. They are killing our protein feeders right now.

trapped my first coon this weekend in dg trap using mini marshmallows. am trapping around my corn feeder protein feeder. After this one will they continue to come to traps or will I have to pick up and move on? there are about 6 big fats that hang around there obviously cause of the food source.

I've left them alone for the last year or two. Personal issues taking up time and not feeding protein.
That's changed and protein is going out next week along with the dukes on any overnight trip this year. Hope to add to next week along with a yote or two. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk |

Bought 6 Bridger dp traps Wednesday 1/6 and set 2 out on each of 3 corn feeders. This morning, I had 5 coon in the 6 sets. I set 4 with dog food as bait and got 3 coons and 2 with small marshmallows and got 2. Guess that makes 16 for the total.

So im ready to tackle our coon problem. We have several feeders that have 6-7 around them. Im guessing the Dukes coon trap is the best way to go. I woudnt mind catching a coyote as a by catch too but guessing they wont take the coon bait.
Do we have a consensus on what the best bait is? I see anything from corn/protein, marshmellows to cat foot. Thanks for the tips |

7 confirmed kills, lost 2 due to the wire holding the trap breaking and another 1 chewed his leg off. That brings the count up to 81. Using Duke traps baited with sardines.

The best bait is whatever catches your coons that day. Tops are corn, protein, marshmallows, and dry cat food. Some use sardines or dog food too. They are there for corn or protein daily.... so it’s easy to get and fill each trip .. plus in the summer the ants don’t get to it or it doesn’t melt during the day like marshmallows. You can drive up to the pen, look and drive away if there aren’t coons in them. Marshmallows are dang good as well. It puts a sweet smell in the air and it’s something different. We’ve caught a lot of coons on small marshmallows w/ corn or protein mixed or a single large marshmallow. In the spring and summer, the marshmallows do get attacked by ants during the day and they melt in the heat. So do sardines. That combo makes a mess. We usually set traps right before dark, and check them the next morning. In the summer, with traps not hit, with marshmallows, we take them out and spring the trap to be set again that evening. With straight corn and protein you just drive up and drive away... or if you have a Covert cell cam set them in front if it and never have to drive down until you get a customer. The protein and corn is definitely easier, cleaner and very effective if you don’t have feed laying around everywhere. Try em all and see what your coons prefer. |

Thanks Jason I knew you’d have good info
I saw a guy using dry cat food and squirted some fish oil on it. That seem like it would be great bait. I think I’ll start off of for traps 2 at each feeder location and go from there. |
