I seen lots set ups where the cnc was built below a workbench. You got room!

I saw one guy build a table that hinged off the wall, like one of them old ironing boards. The cnc machine was attached to the table and everything folded out of the way when not in use. Lots of space saving ideas out there.

mmoses, when you got your cnc set up was your spoilboard "true"? I am trying to get mine as close as possible and right now I am about 0.030" lower on the right side than the left. I am thinking about getting a 1" bit and resurface my spoil board.

I added a wasteboard. the one designed by Myers woodshop. It has the wingnut on it.

I did surface that board with https://www.amazon.com/Whiteside-Spo...s%2C227&sr=8-4

My suggestion is to get some dust collection before you surface MDF!

I have gone through a couple of brushes before I got the suckit dust boot

Not too bad I think.
Very reasonable. Work off G-Code? Will it accept a DXF?

Got some projects for you if interested

Yes sir.

DXF and SVGs can be imported easily.

Thanks for the info. I have the dust boot that came with the x carve, but am looking at upgrading some stuff using tbdcnc brackets and new z axis. I am thinking of taking off the spoilboard and loosening and retightening my frame. I am hoping this will help with my alignment. Then I will resurface if needed.

I am really thinking about buying one of these. For those that have them and used them, is there anything you wish you had done different? Size, brand, etc?

I wish I had done the XXL, but I am happy with the shapeoko.

I have not used the Shapeoko. I have the Inventables X-Carve.

I bought the 750x750 and also bought some upgrades through tbdcnc to stiffen up the y rails. I am happy with the product and am starting to work on some more upgrades that will help with clamping and what nots.
The 750 model only gives you about 20 sq in to carve and I would like to have more but I didn't have the room in the shop for it.

Good luck with your purchase,

Drew

Cool thread and products. I might have missed some of the details as I am half asleep still. Are you folks doing this for fun or business?? If business, how is it going as far as demand??

We bought ours while we had a backlog of probably 200-300 pieces/week that we were doing by hand. Finally got the router set up and itís a world of difference. Hit the start button and just supervise it. Our work is more production than custom but I fiddle around when I find time.

All that's left is to finish

I am also working on plaque for a friends deceased uncle. This is my test cut. Not real sure I like the font like this (It looked much better in the preview in Easel) or if I want to carve the Script without the pocket. I will do both test carves and let him decide.

Those are pretty cool results for benchtop CNC Routers!

I sold a 5x12 SCM Morbedelli X200 last week for a mere $225k. It runs 1600" per minute.

To spend less then $2k and doing projects like that is amazing.

Nice work!

I feel like I'm pushing it when I run mine at 60" per min.

For any of y’all doing this, how much would y’all charge for a 10-12” Texas with about 3 statements in the middle. Would be powerlifting trophies for the school I work at

Thank you

I used a 60* vbit. I set max depth at 1/4in with the border set at 0.0625in. I did have an issue with the first vbit from freud as the tip was not centered and ended up wallering out the letters not putting a sharp corner on them. I planed down the board 1/4in and recarved with a different bit.

I don't know if you have tried Easel but here is my project link

Finished this guy for a buddy. I tried to use some Oramask 813 but I had the wrong bit and it did not work as well as I had hoped. Ended up having to hand paint the background black.
