Materials so far. The goal for foundation up to the point of Sub floor is 10% of full build cost. So far I'm sitting pretty good.

(43) 4x6x10 Treated for Post and Beams $990.72
(42) Sacks of 80# Conc Mix $200.79
(64) 2x8x12 Pine for Floor Joist $540.67
(4) 2x8x20 Pine for Outside Floor Joist $64.77
(30) 4x8 Tongue and Groove Sub Floor $779.18

Foundation Total $2576.13

Fastener costs? (Screws, nails, optional straps/hangers?) That is the one that always seems to get me... even on the smallest of projects where I don't sue straps/hangers.

True! I still have 2 boxes of 3" screws and framing nails leftover from past jobs. Guess that would need to be thrown in. Lol

How high will the ceiling/walls be?

Gable roof. Somewhere between 8/12-12/12 pitch.

Just unloaded sub floor. Already sweating my tail off!

At a stopping point for a week or so. Will cover with plastic tomorrow and start framing in a couple weeks. Hard part is complete!

Main thing to know here is stagger the tongue and groove sub floor. Other than that really nothing to it. I normally would use ring shanked nails with nailer but still didn't bring generator. Used 2.5" deck screws. Feels good to be elevated looking over the pond view!

I prefer making chandeliers!

Speaking of I need to get a big one together for a member.

I'll have help raising outside walls after I get them put together. BIL said he is ready whenever I need him.

Really not flaws just personal preferences. 8' ceilings all throughout. I would go 9'-10' in living, kitchen and master. I'm 6'5" and so taller ceilings would be nice. Plan to raise a couple in the next year or so after this build. Open living room and kitchen area. I've already remodeled to get the look we like. Before I just had a 5' opening from living to kitchen.

I won't need his help until I start framing and raising walls. Couple weeks. He has already offered but not needed yet. He isn't a lazy guy. I'm just hard headed self goaled and like working alone!

Always glue and screw those floors! Nails are guaranteed to squeak at some point!

No floor insulation. Underpinning around perimeter and landscaping work great.

The one regret I have about the cabin I built is not insulating the floor. Now I'm trying different things to mitigate the mold due to condensation. Probably not a big deal if I had electricity and kept the inside climate stable.

No issues here at all with mold or moisture. I put up cedar panels on mine. FIL has lattice on his and probably do lattice on this one. Key is ventilation!

Notice you didnt use straps/brackets/hangers on the foundation. Did you just toe the beams and joists? Nails or screws?

Personally, I like the structural screws for the small projects like blinds/cabins. They are a tad pricier, but cheaper than nails/straps and are easy to install using an electric driver.

Toe screwed together. The outside OSB will overlap both when I get to that point and basically make it Hurricane proof. It will be a 1' overlap and join everything together. Very sturdy structure in the end.

So essentially wood block strapping at the rim connections to the beam/beam ends. But just toed for the inside beam/joist and beam/piers.

(BTW, not judging... people been building country homes for centuries with less)

Correct. I'm no pro. Lol... I had a book when I built mine and just followed instructions. It was a basic contractor building book that showed how to do it all. I have passed it down to another member here and don't have it. Definitely a good source for big projects.

There are so many ways to do things now. I try not to cut corners but I'm sure I will in some builders eyes along the way of this build.

My favorite part is the structure... inside finishing would annoy me. Probably why I never did get motivated to wire the inside of my tiny lease cabin.

No big updates this week or next. I did get the plastic cover on today in case any rain or whatever you call that stuff comes in the next 10 days. Will start framing later next week. Until then I plan to spend some much needed time with the family!

Sorry for bad light. Bought this years ago as a reference for small house building. Way before tiny houses was a fad.
