    Old spike? Or just healthy?

First off I’m not a spike killer unless it’s an obvious older deer or something that has a spike on one side and a normal antler on the other. This deer has me questioning his age. Not the typical 1yr old body and maybe even that of a 2 year old. What say y’all?

I believe from this picture that he is a little to old to be a spike looks like a 21/2 year old deer

A big fat EARLY fawn or yearling at the oldest.

I think the picture is deceiving because he is alone. How tall is your feeder pen? Is that a standard 34" tall hog panel?

Just for grins here’s a comparison with a couple older deer 3-4yr olds. The spike is rarely with other deer, always by himself. I’m not inclined to shoot him or anything I was just curious.

His hair is piloerected. Gives the illusion of older. No staining, small neck, young deer.

Looks older than a baby. Big rear and round stomach. Deer don’t get fat until they age. A young baby or 1.5 year old does not look like this deer.

Never shoot spikes regardless of age. No tellin what they’ll be next year.
