Have one that a man that worked for my dad built me in 1978. I have killed a lot of deer and other animals with it. Also own a 30-30, 270, had a 243 and a 30-06 and prefer the Mauser over any of them. It has very little recoil, but may be because it is pretty heavy. If I could only have one deer rifle it would be the 7X57 Mauser. Mine is not pretty, but it is very functional and shoots Remington 140 grain's excepitonally well.

Great old round. If you reload it is about equal to the 7mm-08. Always wanted one but never had the cash when I found the gun.
