Haven't gotten out cameras yet. However we haven't seen any fawns so far. Afraid we lost too many to coyotes. I bought some traps. Gotta get to pounding them.
dog gone Mike, what are you feedin those Iowa bucks?
Billy. This whole state is one big food plot and most of it is high protein plants. Our farm is surrounded with corn, soy beans, clover and afalfa. This time of year the deer are feeding on soy beans leaves, clover, alfalfa, and other native browse. When the corn gets tall...it is about 8-9 foot tall now....the deer will bed down in it during the day. It's shady and cooler in the corn. Plus the corn has been treated with herbacide and insecticide which keeps the ticks and flies off the deer. Them deer got it figured out.[emoji38]
The first picture is corn on the left, a terrace running down the middle and beans on the right side. My "Terrace" cam is where I standing when I took this picture. The second picture is a clover/alfalfa mix field. I can see both spots from the back door of my shop.
They’re coming along nicely. Timely rains have them in good shape. Haven’t seen any of our big boys yet, but they’re typically at the opposite end of the pasture from this spot. Of course that other camera is down at the moment.
