Saying goodbye to my Maggie May tomorrow

My Aggi aka Maggie come icon-jaeger is early 15 and developed tumors around Christmas. She’s not in any pain yet, but her quality of life is getting poor so we are making the hard decision tomorrow. She had a full life and is snoring at the foot of my bed at the moment. She was a helluva a hunting dog.

One of my favorite hunts with her was a quail hunt with JKerr on his place in king county. She had made several solid points and we had harassed the 1st covey pretty good and headed down a draw to a brushy lake bottom where we busted a sow and piglets. She took off after them and a few moments later piglet squeals filled the atmosphere and here she came with with a piglet in her jaws. Ol Sow wasn’t having any of that and chased her down. She released the piglet 20 or 30 yards before she made it back to me.

I hope every day in heaven starts with a full strap of ducks and midday quail and it’s 15 covey days every day! Until I hunt with you in the great beyond.

It’s the absolute worst, and it’s 5 times harder with a bird dog.

Rest easier knowing that you are the only one who truly knows when it’s time, and know that she understands. I believe that 100%.

They deserve not to suffer, we owe them that.

      Rest easy, old girl.

I hate these threads, I’ll be dealing with it soon myself. Happy hunting Maggie! That’s a good looking pup, glad you all had that time together.

There are few things tougher than losing a good dog. As owners it’s up to us to make sure that we don’t let them suffer due to our own selfish desire to keep them around. Even though it’s hard, you’re doing the right thing.

We all face, what you have to..
Consider yourself, fortunate to have given her, what she asked
            in return...
            I'm so sorry.. She's a beauty...
