I like this idea....I can open my side gate and start lighting them up. My house gives me cover if they shoot back and ill obviously have a real gun as well.

Definitely donít do this. If they do shoot back and you have to engage, it would
be difficult to defend your position since you instigated the use of deadly force.

Hes still mad after a group text troll from back during bow season. Pretty juvenile really. I had an entire thread about it here. It was good fun. He got his panties in a wad and they still bunched up around his throat apparently. Aint no sweat of my brow. Life to short to get but hurt over a joke

I agree with most posters. Not worth the risk to fire a weapon even at their tires.

Maybe install security cameras with motion sensors. In addition, install a large LED flood light. One you can turn on with your phone. Light any trespassers up like a Christmas tree. I'm sure they will flee.

Or, for piece of mind. Configure to where you can park vehicle in the garage or behind a locked gate if possible. I don't think I will ever own another house that we can't park both vehicles in the garage comfortably.

I was told every bullet has an atty attached to it. Are atty fees cheaper or tires? Like someone said....thatís why have insurance. There is a great publication and i cant recall the name. In the magazine, they always put 3 stories of people who had to fire their weapon. Everyone always posted that they had to spend tens of thousands On legal fees.

Yes sir. The tag came from the parking lot of the Houston rodeo after a pig show. I saved it and a joke was born

Can you? Yea..
Should you? Prolly not.

If I put myself I that situation, I'll grab the 12, and stand within range of the front door and watch them drive off with my wheels and tires. The second they try to enter my home, game over.

Let them steal, call police, get a report number, file insurance, get new stuff. Most you'll have to pay is your deductible more than likely. No lawyers, no fees, no court.

Plus, my cheapskate *** prolly needed new tires anyway.

Personally id only shoot someone to save a life.. My property is replaceable and i dont want the legal fight.. Even if it is a good shooting the family of that personal can and probably will sue you. So unless you have carry insurance to offset the cost of lawyers and expert witnesses, i wouldnt shoot unless myself or someones life is in immediate danger

You need to decide which is cheaper insurance deductible, or defense attorney retainer. If you pick the latter there can only be one side of the story being told.

I agree that shooting a thief, outside of your home, is probably not worth the hassle that comes with it, especially over some wheels. Definitely don’t fire on a car with unknown contents or passengers.

However, I am disgusted that we are expected to sit back and watch scum steal the things that we work hard to purchase. Insurance deductible, plus probable raised rates for the next couple years, plus the headache of not being able to drive your car to get the wheels/tires replaced. I’m sorry, but this is NOT why I have auto insurance. It’s sickening... responsible, hard working, people have to suffer. But the trash can walk free with some extra cash or a new set of dubs for their hoopty.

My wife’s car was recently broken into. It was 2 months old, and empty, so they didn't even get anything. But getting it fixed was a huge hassle that I’m still paying for, so this really strikes a nerve for me.

It might be cheaper and definitely less stressful to just move.

Assume every bullet that comes out of your gun has a lawyer attached to it regarding self defense.

Why not just click the panic button your key fob, I sure the horn honking and lights flashing would cause them to vacate immediately. I would not really want to confront someone that could be armed over some wheels and tires.

Few things:
1. Isn't there a law making it legal to 'shoot the car jacker'?
2. Set up a trap. Watch 'First Blood' for some ideas. Here's my idea. Drive some nails in a few sheets of ply wood, set them nail up on the back side of your truck. Have a trail camera there to catch it all.
3. If you do get a shot off and the cops come looking for you. Tell them you are with BLM, it's the new Trump card.
4. Air rifle shot to the legs

$100k is too much for a handy. You can get them a lot cheaper at those Asian Massage places. Plus, when he's in prison, he'll be paying Lamont 2 cigs for a handy so he's basically saving money.

Local event/incident similar to the OPís. DPS trooper wonít do jail time, but I think he and DPS are going to pay way more than 100k.

Makes me think twice about what I would do if I saw this happening. With all thatís been going on heíll probably end up on the losing side of the civil suit. I donít think he should have to pay, but think a corpus jury will award the family lots.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit: Surveillance video of teen shot and killed by DPS trooper offers different explanation for previously believed chain of events http://www.kiiitv.com/mobile/article...1-3ce485665e43

To my understanding it is legal to use deadly force to stop the commission of a felony at night.

Also legal to use deadly force to stop a thief fleeing with your personal property if there is no other reasonable expectation if recovery.

The thread title was about Legal rights and there it is. Legal fees gonna suck. Make wise choices.

Sounds like you need to use the garage as a garage and build yourself a workshop.

If a Suburban will fit (they will) then a pickup will too.

so after reading through all this it seems the best plan of action is to wait until they arrive, turn a light on and go outside and help them take the rims and tires off and load them to make sure none of the crooks hurt their backs in the process so you don't get sued. then tell them thank you and have a nice night and go back to bed. get up and go buy new tires/rims and repeat as many times as necessary.
