If I understand the evolution of this thread correctly, since April of 2016 to 2019, DD has gone from a small business to a much larger business and as discussed, there may have been changes to their product as a result. Correct? The feed analysis report we see from 2016 might not be the current story?

In on the results of the analysis from Peyton. Very interested to see that report. Thanks TXBRASS for keeping up the list. Very helpful.

Default Protein Pellet Ingredients

Bee County Co-Op sent me these two latest test results from 2018. They said they run test on a regular basis to insure quality and TDN.

I just got off the phone with L&E. They said their 20% formula has a TDN of 70.02%. Has it gone down?

Must have. Iím going to try and get updated ones from all the major feeds ASAP.... After this post got some attention, a lot of the companies arenít as helpful as they once were. Seems many like to keep these feed analysis reports out of the public eye and hope customers will just look at the feed label.

I am not spending $$$$$ on feed, but if I was I would not buy from a company that hid the data. Its odd DD won't give you a recently dated analysis. If my product was the best and I knew it, I would give the info to all comers.

Good luck TXBRASS and thanks for maintaining the list.

No response should tell you something. Especially from DD as some of their prices dropped slightly to 12-13 a bag

Last time I spoke with DD (about a year ago) they requested a link to this thread. My only guess is that their current Feed Analysis Report is not what it was in 2016 and thatís why they refuse to send one now. I know that they have the link and are monitoring (or were) this thread.

I did find out yesterday that Bee Co Co-Op pellets will now be carried in Hallettsville at the new Bahuslav Feed Store thatís opening on Hwy-90 just east of the city limits. I talked to the owner and he said that the Bee Co Co-Op pellets is looking for new dealers currently. Guess Iíll be making the switch to them.

The guy at Bee Co. Co-Op told me that they do not sacrifice or edit their recipe due to price fluctuations so cost can vary throughout the year based on ingredient cost. They said that they are dedicated to keeping the TDN at the highest level possible.

We use Bee Co as well. This is the data he sent me at the beginning of the year
When season rolled around our deer were fat and happy but we seen very little gains in head gear.
Hoping the drought conditions were to blame.

You won't get one. Their price dropped for a reason.

And their employees/chronies like Hunter West are too busy on FB and tagging DD in every buck that increased his antler size this season.

What it really means is peyton was legitimately worried the feed had changed and he had been getting hosed worse than he already is. So he sent a sample to double check lol.

I heard the rumors, verified, and ordered more Double Down.

Even with under 5Ē of rain from January to August, we broke 3 ranch records this year. Highest score, heaviest mass, and widest spread records were set for the last 32 years.

Something has changed from the decades of hoping for a 170 every few years to seeing a dozen a year here. I believe nutrition has everything to do with the change in the frequency of 170+ bucks.

DD led the field in TDN in Ď16 and still does in almost the exact same numbers. Itís sold as a consistent recipe, thereís no denying the facts.

How am I getting hosed?

I never will just because of their untruthful advertising and lies about the ranch this protein is "featured" on by Brett Holden

Who cares about advertising and supposed lies about a ranch. Look at the numbers on the feed, look at the results people are having. This is just weird, it’s right in front of your face and yet you still argue like it’s some kind of scam. Love or hate Brett Holden it’s hard to argue with his success, he grows big deer on the stuff and you can’t really argue with that. It looks like to me all the dd haters are just jealous of Brett and let that get in the way of a good thing. He has shown anyone who will listen the formula to grow big deer, age, feed program, super limited cull program, predator control. You all sound like a bunch of jealous 12 year old boys ****** because Brett has a shinier bike than you have, the funny thing is he will tell you how to get one just like it. You just wanna hate like a bunch of democrats wearing white like in the state of the union last night. My dad always said if someone is having success, learn what they are doing, try to do what there doing. Hating on someone for having success won’t make your deer better, or hunting more fun, it just drags you down. Brett doesn’t care what you think, he’s going to do what he’s gonna do regardless of all the bashing

Can you explain the untruthfulness regarding the advertising and ranch? Iím curious, and Iím not gonna go back through any past threads to find out. Would just like an honest answer, as Iím always open to learn and listen to people with proven deer results.

I follow several proven ranches on social media and have witnessed first hand increase body weight and antler size on their herds and they all believe that DD has had the biggest impact. I have witnessed the feed be consumed at a much higher rate than other feeds right next to it, and I have witnessed how powerful it can be, simply as an attractant because deer seem to love the smell and taste.

Purina has led the field from a research standpoint if you want to go there.

Plain ol corn has a higher TDN than anything listed on this page. Looks like corn is the TDN leader as a deer feed.

Heck peas at $0.10 a lb will test around 80% TDN +/-.

Strictly from a LABS, TDN, and "PROTEIN PELLET" perspective, as that is what this thread is about, DD has been at the top of the list (see #276).

The focus has been on tdn not the total package feed as it relates to ingredients and cost.

Most of the feed companies listed have a premium feed that has higher cost ingredients.

Most people buy feed based on price (usually lowest priced) and some buy the highest priced thinking they are getting the best by spending more. Fact is very little has proven that one feed really outperforms another and that really canít be proven scientifically anyway.

Feed what you like but donít take the bait that one feed is a miracle worker. Normally the benefits of going with the best dealer in your area that have feed in stock at reasonable prices will far outweigh the gains by paying extra for a premium feed. I would be feeding Purina if the dealer in my area wasnít way over priced on feed and corn.

What the average consumer (hunter) doesnít understand in many cases is that the deer advertised to sell deer feed are the extreme cases and on many ranches are more of feedlot type situation. When researching feed ask them questions about the claims made. High fence, low fence, partial high fence, quantity fed, etc etc. You will be shocked at the quantity fed most of the time and that quantity is unrealistic more most hunters/managers. Itís called marketing and it definitely works.

So everyone is judging DD by its advertising, price and what many believe is a false representation of the ranch?

How many on this forum truly have any experience with the feed itself?
