Default My version of a big protein feeder

I got this hopper years ago from a TBH'er.

I originally got with the intention of storing corn in back when corn was so expensive. While life got in the way and it sat in the pasture. Until now. I got the itch to feed protein on the west Texas lease we are on. I'd much rather DIY something than pay big bucks. Figured what the heck, all I have to do is add legs and fit something to close the hole at the bottom and I'll be in business! Should hold a ton of protein easy. Had a free day today, so pulled to the shop so I could use the fork lift. Sure made it easier. In between rain showers I got the legs on it. Used some old removable door mullions for the legs. I'll work on the plate for the hole in the evenings. Going to get a timed head from Mike. Won't be going to the lease till the 25th, so I have some time to complete it. This picture doesn't have the c channel welded to the bottoms of the legs.

That might qualify as a silo! Fill it every 2 years.

I doubt I will ever fill it. Probably only a ton at a time.

Works great!! Most Iíve every put in it was around 2300 lbs. Iím doing bulk protein with a blower trailer, got tired of carrying bags up. So itís hard to tell exactly. I think this next time Iíll be the only one filling feeders so I may order 3000 and see if it will fit. But other than being tall, she works great.

12í I think. Tall enough itís hard to stand on the tool box of my f250 and throw a bag of protein to someone sitting on the top. Lol

Havenít had a problem in the first year. Heck I can barely keep protein in it, the deer are eating it so fast. But curious, why would they be a any more of problem than any other 1 Ton feeder?
