Default Scheels?

Passed by a Scheels location in The Colony set to open April 2020 yesterday. Went to their website and was surprised to see that they offer bows from companies like Matthews and Hoyt, which you would never see in Cabelas/Bass Pro. Anyone have any experience with this store?

They are mainly all up north. Good place. My wife's folks live in Loveland, Colorado where they just built one. Massive store with lots of stuff. It's like a Cabelas + Academy, so it has hunting/fishing/camping type gear along with lots of other sports gear as well.

That particular store even has an indoor ferris wheel.

I was in the Scheels in Loveland, Colorado a couple of years ago. Think Cabela's on steroids with a circus included. Massive operation.

I cant wait until it gets here. I am not a Bass Pro fan and since they took over cabelas and basically turned it into a BPS I dont care for it either. Scheels will put a hurtin on them I think.

Seeing the responses and browsing their site, I have no doubt they'll be the "Go-to" place in the Metroplex. Pretty excited to check them out - I dread going to Cabelas/Bass Pro/Field and Stream because of the selection and staff.

I think most have that. The one in Billings, Montana has one and upstairs also had a two lane mini bowling alley. Pretty neat.

I like Scheels a lot. I was in Rapid City last week and stopped at the one there. They are kind of a cross between original Cabela’s and Academy but have high end hunting gear also. The one in Rapid has a couple of bowling lanes too.

It’s been many years since I’ve been in a store, talking 20 plus but did just order online from them.

Order some tackle. Get an email that items shipped. Package arrives and only part of my order is there. Check bank account no refund. Call CS and guys says oh yeah looks like we were out of the rest of your order. I ask if it will be backordered or my money refunded. “Oh yeah we won’t get anymore so I guess you need a refund?”

Says refund should appear in 2/3 days. A day later I get an email that says the rest of my order is shipping and it appears my account was charged again for the full amount. Checked bank account again and was never charged for initial order until the second email came out. . . . .

My head hurts just from typing that

Absolute great store. Had one in my home town back in North Dakota. Super excited to see them move south. Lol, I am currently working next door to the new Scheels at the new Andretti's, and I like to occasionally disappear and walk around Scheels. Not a whole lot to see as of now, but what I've seen, its going to be crazy huge.

I’m excited about this Scheels. Never heard of them until today. BPS and Cabelas in DFW kinda suck...so I’m stuck with Academy. Scheels seems to be a nice alternative. Gander in a Frisco was horrible.

I’ve stopped in the Salt Lake Scheels a few times over the years, and love it. Great store and great prices. Beats BPS and Cabelas for sure.

Looking forward to this. Cabelas and Basspro have have lost me. Going into the Allen Cabelas store is just depressing any more. Understaffed, undertrained, and poor inventory. You can tell the morale is low too. More a lifestyle store than a serious sporting goods store. I've got some points to spend. After that I'll be cancelling my credit card with them if Scheels is everything they say it is. Looks like Scheels has the same points system.

Went yesterday to the new one in The Colony and this store is awesome! Have literally anything you could ever need and the selection is great. Store is huge and makes Bass Pro and Cabelas look small. Gun selection was great and said they do price match. Bow shop area and Fishing section were also top notch. Highly recommend checking it out.Heard they were employee owned as well which i like.

Was there a line to get in or was it normal despite this Covid19 stuff. Do they ask you to wear a mask?

We love our Scheels. The one down the road from me seems huge but the gun manager said it was 168k square feet and that the new one in DFW was 330k

With the exception of pistols and black guns, all the guns are out on racks were you can pick them up and molest them without having to ask someone behind a counter to hand them to you.

I get some tackle from their website from time to time. Every other year we visit my wife's family in Nebraska. All the grand-kids get a Scheels gift card in their stocking. I look forward to going there every year as well. Like they've said, it's huge.

They carry used guns and sometimes have some really nice stuff at competitive prices because they don’t list any of it online. Don’t be scared to make an offer either, at least at my local store they’re always willing to wheel and deal.

Made it up today, for the first time.
Dads 80th, so I took him up their.
Awesome place, and didn't even have to wear a mask.
Made it a point to thank them for giving me the choice.
Talked to several employees at length about the company.
All of them had lots of experience/degrees that catered to their expertise.
The girl in the active sportswear, was a previous coach, and finished her masters degree in Monticello, AR at the high-school.
She introduced me to the girl in shoes, and I bought some Solomon quest in the process.
She was a former running coach of some kind.
Go figure.
They told me about the training, and knowledge required to be hired there.
She said basically you had to be a expert(very knowledgeable) in your field to even be hired.
Just like the sign reads.
For the guys upstairs, she said it's even worse.
Lots of training classes, having to pass test, ongoing education(classes), etc.. in your field.
So upstairs my dad put that theory to the test and we spent about 3 hrs in the gun section while he put em through the mill.
He burned em before to long, but for the most part they a very knowledgeable, and confirmed what the girls down stairs told us.
1 of the guys had been gunsmith, etc.
They study manuels, learn everything there is to know about each gun they sale, etc..
Somewhere in the conversation, he said they are looking into carrying more custom rifles.
I asked who, and he mentioned APR.
Lots of people have ask them about their guns, according to him.
Thought that was pretty cool.
Disclaimer-I know nothing about anything between these 2 companies, just a conversation with an employee.
All in all we were blown away, by the service.
Lots of the employees moved down from stores up North, and they make sure everyone is on point before they ever open.
Also it's nothing like a Bass Pro, or Cabelas.
It's basically Academy on steroids, without the idiot employees.
Has a bath bomb section, home decor section, bike shop, etc..
Extremely clean and nice.
We dumped a couple grand on them and left happy campers.
