Default Spypoint camera in Sportsman's Guide

The wife just gave me the latest Sportsman's Guide catalog and it has a Spypojnt Link Micro Cellular 10MP Trail Camera for $134.99 if you are a member. Says it has a free monthly plan offer with 100 photo transmissions/month thru Verizon or AT&T. Thought I would share.

Very interesting. Not very familiar with the plans. How much would 1000 pictures per month be?

I picked one up for myself for Fathers Day and it works great. SPYPOINT offers a 1 month free unlimited plan after that is unlimited pics for 10.99 a month. Spypointís website explains the three different plans.

$10/month is if you pay a year at a time. Good deal if you run them year around and donít mind paying it all up front. Transmitted picture quality is not very good, but good enough to see whatís coming around.

I bought 2, but for some reason, one hasn't sent pics since June 15, and the other has been hit and miss.

Open your app and click on status. Click on the signal strength bars 5 times. Ignore the little pop up.

A few seconds after you click on it the 5th time a different pop up will come up and it will indicate what tower that camera is connecting to.

You can google the LTE *** *** shown and see what tower itís on to make sure itís connecting to an AT&T tower if your Camera is AT&T or Verizon if your camera is Verizon.

That may be why itís hit & miss then. No idea about that version other than I see itís connecting to 3g instead of 4g LTE.

My first two Verizon models kept trying to connect to AT&T or TMobile towers. They sent me new SIM cards and it didnít fix it. After about 6 weeks of messing around with I had them send me two new ones. So far they seem to be working ok. They are at least connecting to Verizon towers consistently.

I like the option to get 100 free pics for the off season months or places you wont get many pics. And 10 bucks a month for unlimited isnt bad for a year subscription. Another neat thing is being able to control when the camera actually operates. Daily timeframes can be set different .

Both (Covert and Spypoint) have been pretty reliable and pretty easy to use, but I prefer the Spypoint. Quality of photos seem about the same. I will not put these on a deer feeder though. Too many pictures.

My Spypoint has been good from day one! Good solid camera and even better customer service! I just recently had mine get completely infested with ants which rendered it useless, Spypoint sent me a brand new replacement! This camera was 2yrs old....top notch service right there! Theyíll continue to get my business!

Jim, does this Spypoint not give you the ability to set a longer time between pics to cut down on number of pics being sent?

Just returned one as well as the new Moultrie cell cam. Couldn’t get either to connect. Call customer service on both said something is wrong with the camera. Think I’m done with cell cameras for now.

posted another thread on equipment and tuning about these, missed this one... oops. i was thinking of trying them out. for the price they seem like a big hit or miss. i know where i hunt ATT gets good service, so much so ive almost switched to cricket monthly just to get decent signal in the woods haha. on acdemys website they seem to only have verizon and nationwide?? idk if nationwide is ATT or what.

I bought a Moultrie XA-7000i at Academy the other day. It wouldn't connect to their server either. Returned it.

I decided to order a Covert Code Black LTE this morning. Hopefully it'll work as well for me as they do others on TBH.

how often does the spypoint take a picture? I see the trail and bait mode and it says instant and 5 min. Are there any other settings? On the trail mode does it continue to take pictures while movement is detected?

My SpyPoint was cursed. My lease is 5 hours away, wouldn't go that route again. Nothing more frustrating than opening the app and finding out something aint right.

I have spypoints and every one of them works.
Don't have a problem with signal and have 100% battery after 3+ weeks.
I do only have it transmitting once a day. So that saves bsttery

I purchased 2 to test. Had to send both of them back because they were Verizon cameras connecting to T-Mobile towers. Got 2 replacements. One of them is working fine the last few days and the other is a runaway taking endless pictures. It takes pictures laying face down on a desk. Guess that will be going back too. Your mileage may vary. Lol

Iíve tried them all and only Reconyx has been trouble free. These cameras are 6 years old and still going strong. Also send great pics on Verizon plan, I have never called customer service for anything.

My father and I own 4 of these. I love them. They are sensitive to wind blowing vegetation etc., and eat AA batteries but I purchased the HME solar/12v battery combo from walmart and battery stays at 100%. Pay about $130 I cant complain . No other issues to report in the month we have used them.
