Default Long shot

I know it's a long shot and last minute, but I'm wondering if anyone has a spot my 14 year old can kill a pig this evening or tomorrow morning. He's been dying to shoot a pig and we had plans to go to a friend's place today on spring break but friend had to cancel. Needless you say he's a little disappointed. We live in Wise County. Certainly don't mind pitching for feed or other costs. Any chance someone can help? Thanks in advance.

Does he have his Hunter Safety Cert and can he hunt from a ladder stand alone?
Also, what will he be using, bow or gun?

No Hunter safety yet. I've actually been trying to get him in a class but most were shut down because of Covid and I didn't want him doing it online. But he is a good, safe hunter. I'd probably prefer to sit with him. He's killed plenty of deer but no hogs as of yet

Rifle, but crossbow may be an option. He's been practicing with his Mama's crossbow I bought on here. As far as travel it just depends if it's this evening or tomorrow morning. Don't mind a drive

The stand I would have to put him in is a two man ladder stand but unless he’s pretty small I don’t know if that would work. Without a safety cert I’m not sure he can hunt alone.
Sending a pm.

Well, it was a learning experience for sure! We saw several pigs-there was no shortage of targets for sure. Nerves got the best of him and he missed a single boar that got away unscathed. A little while later a sounder came in. He let his hands stop shaking a bit and let a shot loose. The pig dropped and was squealing and kicking dirt. 5-10 seconds later he was up and running! In all the confusion he didn't put a finishing shot on him. I took a running shot through the brush. After giving him some time we picked up a spotty blood trail and followed it until he got in briars so thick we couldn't go further. Lesson learned: these are incredibly tough animals. In hindsight we should have put an additional shot in him, but he's used to shooting and dropping whitetails. We hate losing an animal, but also know hunting goes that way sometimes. Overall we had a great experience and are extremely thankful for the opportunity. Geezy is a heck of a guy with a great piece of property. Can't wait to get another shot at them

Sounds like a good time with your son. Great opportunity to learn from and make changes when your next opportunity arrises.

I’m still amazed at how TBH continues to deliver good vibes, this community is amazing.

A tough lesson, but your young hunter son will learn from it and he will get ‘em next time. Thanks for taking us along on his hunt. Also thanks to you for making it possible for another generation of hunters to learn what hunting is all about.
