Even if only 30% of households condition their home to a cooler temperature during the day that is a huge increase in usage, compared to "pre-covid". Add in the fact that every auto manufacturer is pushing electric vehicles that require High amperage Chargers and our power needs are inadequate
Nope, because energy efficiency has been increasing across the board from AC units to light bulbs.

    I’m off the mainstream koolaid

Exactly. Stopped building and maintaining cheap natural gas plants to focus on solar and wind that the government has to subsidize

I envision a portable generator will become a household necessity instead of a previous household luxury.

Anyone have a link to a schedule of these rolling blackouts so they can be planned for? Would hate to have it happen on a day I decide to work from home.

Without a freely moving price mechanism there is no incentive to expand the power grid. As long as ERCOT manages posted prices via their mathematical models, the supply and demand for power will be misaligned since controlled prices and profits will not be allowed to rise to the levels needed to attract more capital and therefore expansion. Any state mandated expansion of the power grid will only lead to the same thing.
Thank your Texas central planners for the rolling blackouts.

Looks like at 2:30 wind was producing a whopping 1,541 mW................Wow.

                        Solar was at 5,229 mW.

Market need was at 69,511 mW with a 3,086 mW reserve margin...........

Might get interesting around 5:30 p.m. when people get home from work and ramp up that a/c unit.

Why are they still cooling their offices?

Maybe it’s because ERCOT is run by a bunch of Californians

I am sure it is. But the point is, how have we, as humans, not figured this out yet??? The second electricity was discovered, we should have been figuring out how to store it. It should have been the #1 action item LOL, not "look how quickly it will kill an elephant"...
