I believe the SD hunt is a fenced hunt, state park.

For Wyoming you better be prepared for cold and snow. The bulls can be hunted early Sept on the forest but cows move down from the Parks to the National Elk Refuge where most are taken. Some can be found on the forest early also but most are taken after they migrate out of the parks to the refuge.
I had 2 days of post holing through thigh deep snow for my last cow. Nearly had me unable to walk that 3 rd day. Snow shoes proved to be invaluable. Had an interesting encounter with a guide or guides from Tag and Drag. I nearly decked those azzhats.
We had it drug down to the retrieval road and gutted then we broke it down ourselves.
We were off the refuge by 2:00 pm with a truck load of meat. Hung it for 10 days and butchered ourselves. Some of the best meat you can eat, like grass fed beef.

Had a hard time getting the ribs on the grill and smoker though, had to cut them in half.

I passed up a couple of bulls when I was in BC at sikanni river back in 2015 trying to kill a giant we saw. I regret passing those bulls every day now. I could have shot one for 4K. That hunt now cost $15k

Wyoming NR any bison license $4,402
25 tags this year, 296 applicants.

This hunt can be done DIY with Tag and Drag for retrieval and gutting, $150 for the service.
Lodging in Jackson can be found pretty reasonable for hunters, some hotels have hunter rates that are good.

My cow bison cost us about $850 all included; license, lodging for 3 nights , Tag and Drag, and fuel to Jackson.

I want to hear more about the dust up with the local guides. What was that about?
