Interesting read for sure. Same site also had an article about how to treat scalping victims. That was a brutal read.

I saw somewhere that over human history, many more people have been killed by arrows than by bullets.

Nice to read something other than ammo gouging threads.
        Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting read, thanks for posting this.

I read somewhere a good number of years back that the draw weight of the plains Indian horse bows went into the 25-40 lb ranges.

It all had to do with materials used to build the bows, I believe.

Still did a tremendous amount of damage though. And multiple hits on one target to boot.

I’ have also read most plains Indian bows were 45 lbs or less. They weren’t worried about getting a pass-through for a better blood trail, just get that head deep enough to mess you up. Anywhere in the torso, 6” would do it.

Had to have been a gruesome task. Interesting read for sure.

Also keep in mind that when the dr was doing his procedure to remove the arrowhead from the people they were buried up in, it was probably done without the benefit of anesthesia.

Not to mention the lack of knowledge we have today of infection control,eg digging the fingers into the wound channel, that those who survived were indeed hearty individuals.

after that read it brought up memories of Clint Eastwood in two mules for sister Sarah, he was shot through the shoulder and broke the shaft off, grooved it and lit gunpowder in the grove as the shaft was passing through the shoulder!

I guess old Clint was pretty smart fellow!
