This is interesting, if 4 teams hang tight they still are a conference per the Big 12 bylaws and those 4 could receive massive exit penalty cash, its starts at 9:30 https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas...pt=uo%3D4&mt=2

A one time payout versus finding a conference asap. That is the you can shoot a sheep once or sheer it for a lifetime. They better work on finding a spot in a conference. Non of them have anything to offer so run don't walk.

Fact is there is there is no power conference landing spot for 4 or more of these teams, the PAC doesnít want the church schools, ACC doesnít want WVU if forced to 16 they want notre dame and reluctantly Cincy Big 10 has better options than Kansas and ISU and Kansas state is much to small and the least attractive addition behind TCU and Baylor. You hold out and take the exit penalty money and merge with the AAC or MWC later.

The Big 12 is playing with fire, but this tells me they have very little hope of surviving. This was their final trump card and Iím not sure the end game itís worth it.

Hopefully the Big 12 schools see this and go find good homes in the other Power 5 conferences.

Does appear to be a very desperate move, makes me think theyíre having a hard time finding desirable landing spots.

There are no homes for at least 5 of the ones left I would say, those eight together are stronger than the AAC and MWC combined, if they hold together they will have the pick of the best from both... and the exit money. Its in ESPN, OU and UT's best interest the conference dissolves.

Thats why your hearing the tortious interference claims. ND can do what they want and they know it, they will just wait until everything shakes out to decide what they do/where they go and pick the best option.

ďFor the exit fee of $160 million, those 8 universities will bite the hand that feeds them ó then ask for another TV deal wherever they land.

Iím sure ESPN will forgive and forget.Ē

The simple math here is 20 million per team, but they wouldnít even get all of it.

The buyout is cheap all things considered.

If the move is to 4 Super Conferences of 16 teams each, the Big 10, PAC, and ACC will have to grab their teams from the Big 12. Outside of ND, BYU, the majority of the Big 12 is the best option for the conferences to expand.

If that is not the move, then yes a combination of the AAC / Big 12 seems like the best fit for the 8 teams to stick together and form a new league.

The only play the Big 12 has is getting these two to stay until 2025, that's not going to happen.

37 million per year turns into 9 million(ish) per year, like the Iowa State AD stated. Its the Mountain West without Texas/OU.

2022 will have a different look.

Finish with a .500 SEC conference record and middle of the pack of the division? Is that crushed?

Texas is top 10 in talent in the country based on star ratings. #5 last season. Better than A&M. In case you didn't notice they have a brand new coaching staff full of ones they poached from the almighty SEC.

Since you obviously haven't read the thread...the SEC is top heavy. The middle and lower teams suck which is what makes up the bulk of your schedule. What Heath said is not gonna happen. By FPI peojections for this year OU would be #2 and Texas #5 in the SEC. Aggy #4.

I think thatís a reasonable expectation.
In the Auburn, Florida, Texas A&M tier of vying for 5th best in conference.

Literally, every Longhorn fan I know hates the SEC.
And I donít think itís a stretch to say that winning a NC will be a little harder for everybody with this merger.
Itís weird Texas would do this to itís fanbase.
But welcome anyway.
Gonna be awesome when Auburn comes to Austin.

I wish Auburn had done more recently in hopes of keeping some tradition.
(Iron bowl and Deep Southís Oldest Rivalry).
But weíve been so non-competitive, you canít really argue for demanding those remain.

Itíll be interesting to see how little Nicky divides this whole enchilada into pods that suit his interests.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. ESPN is being accused of behind the scenes skullduggery. (imagine that!) There's more than a hint of desperation from Bowlsby here from the helm of his sinking ship but that doesnt mean what he's saying could not be true.

Bob Bowlsby, the league’s commissioner, sent a cease-and-desist letter to the TV network on Wednesday that accused the company of taking “certain actions that are intended to not only harm the Big 12 Conference but to result in financial benefit for ESPN.”

Should the Longhorns and Sooners try to exit the Big 12 early, they could owe the conference as much as $80 million a piece in exit fees. If the Big 12’s remaining eight schools stick together, they will no doubt try to collect as much money as possible from their departing rivals. But if those teams leave for other conferences themselves and the Big 12 dissolves, some schools could save a lot of money.

It has been speculated that ESPN could also save considerable cash, upwards of $1 billion, if the Big 12 quickly dissolves and it no longer has to honor its TV contract with the league.
Bowlsby later told the Dallas Morning News that ESPN has conspired with at least one other conference and as many as half of the Big 12’s remaining schools about expansion plans that could harm the league.

“There were incentives discussed for that conference to go and take those members,” Bowlsby told the newspaper. “So that’s as clear a tortuous interference with our business as you can possibly have,” Bowlsby also said to the Morning News. “I’m absolutely certain it has occurred. I have every belief that they were similarly involved in the UT and OU move to the SEC.”

What cracks me up is your goofy posts and the fact that noone responds to you because 80% have you blocked.

The funny thing about all this is Aggy being all mad and trying to block it.

Put me in the meh group. It makes no difference to me. I actually would have preferred the Big 12 add teams but there just wasn't any of value available.

Oh, he can be somewhat right about not getting every vote if he likes. I'm sure Vandy will abstain from voting. They did when Aggie and Mizzou applied.

Happy to know. We were worried you would be upset like the rest since we stole your cornbread....but then again you are used to that. Just remember your are not back to being little brother. Once your little brother you are always little brother.
