Don't skimp on rain gear and foot wear.

            Looks like a great trip!

I’d recommend getting what you need when your up there. There is a sportsman’s wearhouse as well as a true value (this place is awesome) in Soldotna. Get you a gamagatsu dry bag backpack ($60/bucks). Any type of breathable waders work fine, if you want to spend more get better wading boots. Sweat pants and merino wool socks under your waders are perfect and comfortable. If you plan to sockeye fish, the Russian river and kenai should be great around July 15 and the next 10 days after. A good pair of glasses is a must. Stringer, plyers lots of #2 split shots and many coho flies.

If you halibut fish go get you some 16oz jigs and take them with you. Get it to the bottom and “long stroke” the jig as high as you can just off the bottom. This will outfish cut bait guaranteed.

Homer is your best chance to catch a king unless you troll in the ocean. The lagoon loads up with them on incoming tide.

              Have fun!

I was just in Anchorage for a week before I jumped on a boat for work. If you're doing river fishing, take a **** bath in Off, those mosquitoes remind me of early teal season in the marshes of SETX. Also, it's t-shirt/long sleeve kinda weather unless the wind picks up on land, kinda chilly at sea. Have fun, tight lines

My brother & his boys are going to RW’s in Soldotna this next weekend

All the fishing in that region is fun

I spent a bunch on lures in Anchorage when I got there. Caught most of my salmon in the rivers on a plain silver spoon that I brought from home that had seen a lot of use in the surf.

This! Make it a top priority in packing. Get the Huk or Xtratuf rubber shoes.
You are going to love your trip!

I just got back from a rainbow fly fishing trip and am going back on the 18th to Soldatna for some sockeye. Love me some Alaska! The locals said that the salmon run this year was projected to be incredible. Hope they are right! You will have a blast.
