    Daily Bible Portion (Friday)

    Daily Bible Portion – 6 of 7
    "PHINEHAS"

    (Weekly Reading>>Numbers 25:10-29:40, 1 Kings 18:46-19:21, Colossians 2:8-4:6, Matthew 26:1-30, John 2:13-22, 1 Corinthians 5:6-8)

The Bride of Jesus – The Walk of a High Priest

Without the understanding of God’s principles and Covenants even the best intentioned Bride will lose her way. Yahweh is calling His Bride to rise up and go out to meet Him today. His way (His word) is clearly laid out before us to follow; everything is finished and made ready. It is time for the Bride to rise up and go out to meet her Bridegroom.

Song of Solomon 2:10-13 “My beloved spoke, and said to me: ‘Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. The fig tree puts forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grapes give a good smell. Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away!’”

Census and Permanent Land Allotment Size

Numbers 26: 1-65 “Take a census of the whole Israelite community by families - all those twenty years old or more who are able to serve in the army of Israel. The land is to be allotted to them as an inheritance based on the number of names.”

Smaller tribes inherited smaller plots of land that would support them and larger families inherited land the size that would support their needs.

    Zelophehad’s Daughters
    (Numbers 27:1 – 11)

Numbers 27:1-4 “Then came the daughters of Zelophehad the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, from the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and these were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. And they stood before Moses, before Eleazar the priest, and before the leaders and all the congregation, by the doorway of the tabernacle of meeting, saying: ‘Our father died in the wilderness; but he was not in the company of those who gathered together against Yahweh, in company with Korah, but he died in his own sin; and he had no sons. Why should the name of our father be removed from among his family because he had no son? Give us a possession among our father's brothers.’”

The census and allotment were counted according to male gender. Land passed from father to son with the provision that sons would support their widowed mothers and unmarried sisters. But a man named Zelophehad from the tribe of Manasseh, who had been among those rescued from Egypt and later died on the journey to the Land, had five daughters and no sons. Zelophehad was not involved in the sin of the golden calf but died for his own sin. His five daughters represented Yahweh’s government – the five books of Moses and Yahweh’s Kingdom lifestyle. As the daughters had no physical male to inherit through, they rightfully come to Moses to plead their case and procure an inheritance.

Just because the Torah may seem silent on an issue does not mean that it has been done away with. The daughters responded appropriately in taking their case before Moses. They presented their case in a logical and respectful manner. It was not recorded that they grumbled or acted defiantly in their approach nor did they instigate a negative campaign. Their approach and manner before leadership brought great respect that was a credit to their upbringing.

Moses responded likewise. He did not turn them away because they were young or for being women. Moses weighed the merit of their presentation and ruled in their favor. Yahweh’s government is the inheritance believers receive when they walk in the fullness of Torah. When they do, the Bride of Jesus receives an inheritance along with all of Israel regardless of gender, race or tribe. If believers are one in Messiah and walk according to His ways, they too will have a heritage and birthright in the physical land of Israel. Moses rightly communicated the Law as Yahweh originated it. His Superior, the Judge of All, Jesus has granted believers full rightful access to the inherited Land of Israel through our forefather’s Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’s allotted land.

    Joshua to Succeed Moses
    (Numbers 27:12-23)

At this point in their journey Yahweh spoke to Moses about his approaching last days. Before his death Moses would be permitted to see the Promised Land from a high vantage point but not enter into it …at that time. Would we have peace like that of Moses when hearing such news? Will we have the relationship with our Heavenly Father, trusting so deeply in His Faithfulness, that we would have comfort?

Moses humbly accepted the news of his impending death and continued to serve Yahweh. He said,

Numbers 27:15-17 “May Yahweh, the Elohim of the spirits of all mankind, appoint a man over this community to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so Yahweh’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd” (John 10:9).

No one would be surprised at the choice of Joshua to succeed him; after all, Joshua had aided Moses since his youth. He was with Moses in the Tent, meeting face to face with Yahweh. He was with Moses when he received the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. He brought back a good report when the twelve leaders spied out the land. He was Moses’ constant companion, not leaving his side. Moses, however, did not assume he knew who the next leader of Israel would be. We also do not see Moses suggesting someone he thought would be a suitable candidate. In this way, Moses showed great leadership and trust in Yahweh, as He alone knows the heart of man. The depth of humility in Moses is a gift to the body of believers today. Thus we have Joshua succeeding Moses, chosen by Yahweh (Numbers 11:28).
