      Rattlesnake was my first thought. But maybe grazed by a hunter from a quartering away shot, wound from fighting another buck, who knows.

        Hard to say what happened but he looks just fine. Probably won’t even notice it next season.

            Fighting. An antler can rip them open pretty easily when fighting.

                  It’s just a rip and looks peeled back. Probably from fighting. I had one with his cheek ripped open last year and he’s still alive. I call him Scarface

                      I would agree, but that barbed wire is as loose as my stool after a two gallon prune juice bender!

                        I don’t know about that either since the wound doesn’t look like it’s down to the bone. I did think the same thing but I usually don’t see the antler deformation if it’s just a flesh wound. If it seriously injures the animal that’s when I see the deformities. Could still be a serious injury though so it might make a difference in next years antler growth.
