Same ol cycle, will be a few years of oil folks making bank. The irresponsible ones will buy a bunch of toys and things will be gravy, how dare you complain about high gas prices! Then in a few more years the same folks will be complaining they have no job or money, oil is too cheap, feel sorry for me... Wish it would stabilize at a nice level but that's not how the game works.
I am not in the oil business. However, I just spent the last 2.5 days in Midland/Odessa.
1. Truck nuts??? Why is that even cool?
2. KD's BBQ is possibly the worst BBQ I've eaten.
3. "The Bar" has pretty decent chicken fried steak. I appreciated the atmosphere.
4. What is the deal with these dang sunglasses??
5. How in the world does Texas Roadhouse in Odessa not have beer on tap?
6. Has anyone been inside the petroleum club? I can't remember the exact correct name. But looked like a members only rich oil typhoon place. Downtown Midland, near the bank of America building.
7. The Midland Wal Mart..... that's all I have to say about that...
We sent two young Dallas diesel mechanics to Odessa to help our shop there out. Before they left I told them stay out of the bars, leave that lifted truck here and take your wives car, buy your beer at the store and drink it in your room. One asked why and I told him he has never seen anything like it in his sheltered life.
This! ^^^^^^ It's not for everyone.....hard work, long hours, lots of travel. There's a learning curve to staying financially secure during the ups & downs.
I’ve never understood why instead of fixing something for say $1k, they will dance around it as long as possible, lose $10k, and then come back and fix it for the original $1k anyhow. We do it at work, over and over and over.. I’m not a bean counter in a cooperate office so maybe idk what I’m talking about.
